It is not the best i ever had but it is the best option within a 4 block radius of my office which makes it attractive. Stop in here for lunch that is delicious but will not break the bank with many options under $ 10.

An absolute Valley institution, everyone knows The Vietnamese is your go-to restaurant for straight up «cheap and cheerful». The menu has everything you’d expect and then some, plus they offer a great range of banquets and is BYO wine. Great for a speedy workday lunch, dinners on any occasion and can even cater to large groups in the upstairs room. The service is super speedy as you’d expect from a high turnover of tables in this popular establishment. I’ve been coming here for years and it’s never let me down!

‘The Vietnamese’ has been a favourite of mine since I discovered its existence in 2010 and it never fails to fill the empty space inside my belly. A very basic looking restaurant you will find some of the most delicious, reasonably priced food in Brisbane behind these closed doors, pair that with a quirky ambience and attentive, friendly staff and you have a real winner on your hands. I love to come here with a large group of friends and get as many dishes to share as we can possibly fit on the table– my main recommendation is the«Make Your Own» rolls on offer, my favourite are the beef! They taste delicious and are a lot of fun, which is always good especially if you’ve decided to bring the kids along. All the portion sizes are large and the food is fresh and tasty. Come here often– you won’t regret it!

I have been coming here a couple of times a month for the past 6 months because it’s so more’ish. It’s not fancy, but the food is consistently great. My favourite is the curry chicken noodle soup. Just the right amount of heat and an addictive flavour. They have a large upstairs room which can cater for large groups which is good because it does get quite noisy. Make sure you book on a Friday or Saturday night as it does get very busy between 6 and 9pm. I’ve seen plenty get turned away at the door because they are full.

I always tempted to enter into ‘The Vietnamese’ but for some reasons, I didn’t make to the restaurant. But guess what, I made it to this food destination! The menu is long and full of choices. The prices seem cheap and reasonable. My friend and I shared a large Phở(I mean com’on, a bowl of hearty beefy soup is always very welcoming) and a fried rice with crispy chicken. The broth of the Phở is full of flavours and the chicken hit its crispness! The only question to the food is that if their fish sauce dipping sauce is right? But I didn’t really use much as the food is well-seasoned. The customer service is excellent! Friendly and outgoing! The only disappointing is that I was looking to order my usual fresh Vietnamese salad but unfortunately it’s not on the menu but alternatively, you may order noodle salad with a choice of meat.

Phở to me is like the bible to Christians, a resource from which I seek wisdom and transcendence. This place nails it. Like it’s Japanese cousin ramen, phở loves and dies by its stock. Slow, long cooked, rich and textured, these things are essential and they take hours upon hours upon hours to coax from bone. I love this place, cheap, friendly and deeply accessible, ought to be more like it.

This place has massive, delicious cheap food. And it’s BYO. I went on a Thursday night with a friend. It took us a while to place our order and had to ask twice for wine glasses. Then my meal arrived, my friends didn’t. I had finished mine long before his came. Staff didn’t let us know anything about the delay or apologise for it. When trying to attract their attention to ask about it we actually had to walk up to the bar before they noticed us. When we did get to talk to them about it they gave us the meal free of charge.

I just moved to Brisbane and was craving some Vietnamese food(especially since it was Lunar New Year). My friend told me that this was a good place so I was game. I am ethnically Vietnamese and have grown up eating Vietnamese food all of my life. I ordered the speedy lunch and I would say that the fresh spring roll and egg rolls were not good at all. The fresh spring roll did not taste fresh and i did not like the condiments. The sweet chili sauce was bland and the fish sauce did not have much flavor. It just tasted salty with a few shredded carrots. I kept trying to have another bite but it just didn’t do. The beef noodle soup(phở) I ordered was OK. It wasn’t the best but after I doctored it up with hoisin and chili sauce and the minimal bean spouts, basil, lemon, and peppers they gave me– it helped. The bowl of phở could not compare to my Mom’s or other Vietnamese restaurants I have been too. The service isn’t the best either. Our waitress/waiter didn’t come back by again for another 10+ minutes and we received our drinks for a long long wait. I’ll definitely be on the search for another Vietnamese restaurant in the area.

This place was pretty hyped up for me. The combination soup was really yum, but it’s hard to do a noodle soup wrong. The atmosphere is loud and cafeteria-ish. Service is really good and lovely though. But I really didn’t think it was anything special.

The Vietnamese is highly overrated to me. It may be much cheaper than other Vietnamese restaurants in the Valley and in the city, but for me this translates to their skimping on food quality. I took a friend here because he hadn’t tried Vietnamese food before, and I’d heard great things about The Vietnamese from friends and review sites. I ordered us both a favourite of mine: the sugar cane prawn with rice vermicelli. When it came out, the noodles were lukewarm and soggy, and not flavoursome at all. They had included a lot of other mix ins and excluded a lot of the fresh salad that I’d had at most other Vietnamese restaurants where I’d ordered the exact same dish. I much prefer AJ’s Noodle House in the city because it’s fresher and quicker. The atmosphere in The Vietnamese isn’t great either; the tables are set close together and the carpet gives it a slightly scungy vibe. Also you have to wait at the door to be seated, and if the staff are occupied or they don’t see you, you’re just standing there awkwardly while other diners stare at you. Not how I like to start my meals.

People rave about this place. The number of stupid fights I’ve been privvy to regarding«No way man, The Vietnamese is so much better than Trang…» or vice versa is RIDICULOUS. I’m not going to pick sides but I will say this. If you’re in Fortitude Valley and you’re looking for some Vietnamese, I wouldn’t go anywhere else. I like it’s minimalist, no nonsense setting. The non descript environment brings more focus to your company and the food. The phở tai($ 10.00) isn’t the best that I’ve had, but it’s satisfying enough. My only criticism is that they are a bit skint on the garnish sometimes. Less sprouts, more basil! Do yourself a favour and order«deep fried wontons with sweet and sour»($ 10.00) for entrée. You won’t be disappointed. The rice vermicelli salads($ 10.00) are good value for money too. The fun rolls are worth getting just for the ‘playing with your food’ bonus factor. These guys do get quite busy of a night time and so you are always best to book ahead.

The Chicken Vermicelli Noodle Salad is the best in town! For only $ 10, it is a huge serving of tasty fresh vegetables, mint, coriander, chicken and noodles with a tangy sauce. Make sure you get the non-gluten free version. The gluten free version has no sauce or marinade on the chicken. This a great place for lunch too. They have a Speedy Lunch menu, which is a Vietnamese Phở Noodle soup, rice paper roll and spring roll for only $ 12. Definitely book for a Friday lunch and for dinner on Friday and Saturday night. This place is popular for big groups and can get very loud and crazy.

I always wonder why The Vietnamese doesn’t call themselves The Chinese or the General Asian Cuisine because what they serve really isn’t Vietnamese. Most of their dishes seem to be more Chinese in style, and even if you order something typically Viet like Phở it doesn’t have that aromatic freshness that is so characteristic of Vietnamese food. I’m not saying it’s not okay food, but it doesn’t seem to know what it’s aiming to be and because of that it misses the mark. The phở can be a bit bland and perfunctory, lacking the loads of fresh greenery that should come on the side, and I’d actually recommend ordering something more Chinese-influenced because I think they do those dishes better. There’s nothing wrong with The Vietnamese for a meal, and it’s actually pretty well suited to big groups, but it lacks anything to make it stand out from the rows and rows of other Asian restaurants in Chinatown and it would never be my first choice.

I love restaurants like ‘The Vietnamese’. It does not look like much with its dated signage and unoriginal name, but they produce some delicious Vietnamese food. Not to mention, their menu is HUGE, pretty darn cheap and the place is BYO! This is one of my favourite Asian restaurants to eat at in the Valley. I have eaten here during quiet lunch time periods and on busy nights. It usually takes me a good 10 – 15 minutes to decide what to eat as the menu is pages and pages long! Whether you are after a soup, seafood, pork, beef, chicken, noodles, this place has it all. I’m a fan of the crispy fried egg noodle dishes as they always fill me up really well. All these dishes are great to share as the portions are very generous so this is a great place to go with a group of people. I would suggest you make a reservation though, especially if you are planning on coming on a Friday or Saturday night. The Vietnamese is a wonderful casual Vietnamese restaurant. Great for groups or hungry individuals after a good affordable feed in the Valley.

This is just your regular, run-of-the-mill Vietnamese Restaurant, one of the many along Wickham Street in Fortitude Valley. The reason I continue to come back lunches and dinners is the sheer amount of scrumptious food served every time. Going with a group of four or more gives you the option of ordering a banquet, which range in price from $ 17 – 21 depending on what you choose. The $ 21 banquet is undoubtedly the best, with three entrees, four mains and rice, fried and plain. Whenever I come here, even after everyone has stuffed themselves stupid it looks like the food has been untouched and we all take several takeaway containers home.

I’ve often headed to this no-frills offering to line my stomach with friends before a night on the town. BYO is a good feature as it gives you a chance to get in a few sneaky and economical vinos before being sucked into the wallet-draining nightclub vortex. As the name suggests, this place is a pretty standard, paint-by-numbers Vietnamese restaurant. None of the usual suspects are missing(deep fried quail, Phở, rice paper rolls) and their duck with mushroom and Asian greens is one of the more inspired menu items, with delicious crispy duck, plump shitake mushrooms and flavoursome sauce. Served on a generous bed of greens, it packs a bit more vegetable matter than many of the other dishes. This place gets very buys on a Friday and Saturday night so it’s best to book ahead. These guys aren’t breaking any new ground, but if you’re after an affordable and tasty place, well situated for a springboard into a bigger night, you couldn’t do much better than The Vietnamese Restaurant.
