I went to Saffron Curry House for a friend’s birthday, otherwise it was not somewhere I probably wouldnt have gone. Going to unknown Indian restaurants can be a roll of the dice. We ordered a lot of dishes for everyone to share. The Naan bread was good, cooked fresh. The rest of the dishes were disappointing. The meat curries were either dry or tough. It tasted like something I could make at home with a jar. The portions were not very big and the overpriced. Won’t be back again.

I had a dream, a dream where attempted opulence and a self declaration of traditional does not lead to exessive pricing. This dream sees the general public enjoying tasty curries and fresh naan bread, dishes that don’t require luxurious and expensive ingredients. The curries are good but then again, if an Indian restaurant gets a curry wrong they won’t be open for long. Anyway, when the dream was over, the dishes were still tasty, the restaruant was still pleasant but my wallet was less happy.$ 25 for a goat curry is borderline manically crazy.

I’m not sure how I feel about this place. It has a nice enough atmosphere, and the staff are very eager to please, but the food is a bit hit and miss. Our entrees ranged from dry to oily, without a happy middle ground ever really being reached. The curries, on the other hand, were pretty good. I’m a big fan of goat and was not let down by this restaurant’s take on it.(If I was being critical, I might point out that the meat was ever so slightly tough.) I was particularly pleased with the amount of meat in the thing: too often one finds maybe two or three pieces of meat swimming around in an abundance of sauce, and one winds up filling up on rice. Filling up on rice and feeling cheated. But, impressively, not here.
