The sushi and hand rolls are pretty good here, but I haven’t had very good experiences with the other meals such as noodles, soups and stir-fries. For starters, there are really bad photographs of some of their dishes in the window: out of focus, tinted orange and the food looks shiny — pretty unappetising. I’d normally brush that off as just poor marketing as long as the food itself was good, but the quality of said dishes was not much better than the photography — meats of dubious quality mostly, and the service was pretty slow. I haven’t been here for ages after a couple of very disappointing meals, but stick to the take-away sushi and you should be fine though.

Sushi Link was my first taste of Melbourne sushi and I certainly wasn’t disappointed. A classic sushi bar with an unusually generous amount of seating and a menu taking in all of the favourites, Sushi Link makes good — if not amazing — sushi and is a great place for a quick bite on Brunswick Street. My favourite? Sushi Link’s yummy crispy chicken hand rolls which are absolutely full to bursting with fresh chicken, crispy lettuce and that moreish Japanese mayo that seems to turn everything edible to gold. As Tim O. has opined, Sushi Link isn’t the most glamorous sushi bar in town and you’ll have to make do with eating out of a plastic sushi container if you wish to eat in. But if you’re a fan of good, honest sushi and can tolerate the somewhat insalubrious surroundings of this good value little eatery, Sushi Link is a great sushi bet.

Really really tasty hand rolls. That’s all I’m ever interested in with a sushi place. I mean, yes, that’s not all sushi is, but I’m a grab, go and eat while walking kind of girl. Having gone in with friends to eat sitting down, I found that as far as the menu goes, it’s pretty easy to get a filling and tasty meal provided you’re prepared to wait a little while. Not much else to say, really. Try the handrolls(and get them sliced, it makes them taste better).

Sushi Link is one of those places that does the job it sets out to do. Quick food on the go that is not your run of the mill affair. Their sushi is usually very fresh as they have good foot traffic being right near the corner of Brunswick and Johnston Street. Their noodles are ok but I’d probably say that Noodle Palace just up the road probably has the slight edge over them. Where Sushi Link does come into its own is its special offers for the after work crowd. If you go there between 4 and 6, they will typically have sushi box specials and containers of noodles that are crazy cheap. We are talking $ 4 – 5. I’m never too impressed with the quality of the food but if you are hungry and in a rush, it is one of those places you go to fill the hole. Cheap and cheerful. Good for a cheapskate hungry after work.

There are now millions of sushi roll vendors in Melbourne and a lot of them are a bit shit. Sushi Link is not one of them. I always find the rolls well prepared and unlike many others, full of ingredients. My only issue with them is that they don’t come with a brown rice option. I ate in yesterday and tried a deluxe sushi pack that consisted of prawn sushi, salmon sushi and some carved up sushi roll. The food was fresh, not of the greatest quality but still pretty good for Chinese Japanese. I was surprised that even while eating in I still had to eat out of the plastic container, squirting my soy sauce into the plastic lid and trying to mix in the wasabi was pretty difficult. The plastic flipped at one stage and I was left to clean up my mess with a tissue from the tissue box on the table. My biggest gripe about this place is the massive overuse of plastic containers — it’s a huge waste, I need to start bringing my own plate or container.
