Maybe you miss the old Claypots, maybe you don’t. All I know is that its repurposed space is just amazing. These guys have created a bar that actually takes it one step further. It’s just a bit off in the daylight, but at night really starts humming along. Not satisfied with just making really great cocktails, like Gin, Bitters and Champagne(and I loathe Gin), there also is a really nice, simple menu. Couple light picking plates, and three mains(salad, seafood and meet). Go for pre dinner drinks and a nosh, or take a date and stay a while! All in a space that might feel a bit like your own lounge… that is if you have a fireplace, amazing sound system and perfectly dramatic lighting in your own lounge. Keep an eye out also, as their intent to make it into an art space as well is due to begin soon. New local art, music, food AND drink? I’m moving in.

I don’t like dissing on a new venue that is just getting established, but there’s something about Rue de Fleurs that just isn’t quite right. The décor seems quite disjointed, with old rustic wooden furniture, clashing with a shiny, patterned tiled wall, and an attempt at creating a sense of intimacy with candles and an old wooden piano, which doesn’t quite work due to the expansive windows that open two walls completely up to the street, allowing in a lot of light. It’s very quiet in there, so it’s a bit awkward as a venue to hang out with friends because you have to speak up to hear each other over the big clunky wooden tables, but there’s not enough background noise and music to make your conversation feel private. Having only gone in for one Bloody Mary(which was delicious, but a little small for $ 10 — and my celery stick had dirt on it), I can’t be too critical, other than to say that the place is just a bit lacking in atmosphere, and would do well to turn down the lights, turn up the music, and do something to give the place a warmer, more welcoming feel.
