Simple little café. Found this place whilst walking around looking for a place for breakfast. Friendly staff and the eggs were amazing. Definitely would come here again if I’m ever in the area. Booked marked for future reference.

Late nights, usually means late mornings, and often, I am not ready to have«lunch». I still want my breakfast. Found this place, along Fitzroy’s myriad of shops and cafes on Brunswick Street. Its a turkish-family run café, that’s relaxed in atmosphere, reflective of its easy-going décor. There’s seating inside and outside on Brunswick Street, but we chose to dine — in at the back, out in the small courtyard. Service was really friendly, and warm, and most importantly, I noticed that the menu had«all day breakfast». Score! I love all day breakfasts. I keep it simple and go with the Sausage and Eggs — Fried eggs, with beef sausages on sourdough, as well as order their coffee(long black). Initially, when they brought out the food, it was the wrong order, but the waiter noticed it straight away, before I’d even had a chance to say anything. It was all fixed up in a flash, and told us that the chef was a little old, and needed some new glasses. The coffee was at a good temperature, and strong, without the bitterness. Unfortunately I didn’t get to see where they get their beans from. Tucking in to a simple breakfast like the Sausage and Eggs was gratifying. Perfect fried eggs,(yolk not too runny), and the sausages were finger — sized but equally yummy! The sourdough, was a support act, providing me with something to scoop up the rest of the plate with. For $ 10.90, I was happy with the meal. I can see this place as somewhere I could potentially become a regular of.

Went here for brunch and was pleasantly surprised. Its name and signage were almost a big turnoff, but we gave it a go. It’s a simple, seemingly family-run sandwich bar and diner. VERY no-nonsense, which I love: just simple, delicious food. The sandwich prices were insanely cheap(like $ 5 or $ 6 for a made-to-order sandwich) so I would definitely check this out for midweek lunch if I worked nearby. I got the big breakfast, which was delicious. It came with some great turkish bread and some sort of spicy chorizo-esque sausage that was unbelievably good. I’ve never had anything quite like it, so don’t know exactly what it was, but it was off the hook. The eggs were perfectly cooked too. The food did take quite a long time to come out, but it was worth the wait. One of the best no-nonsense places I’ve been to in the neighborhood; if you like your brunches simple and free of remoulades and onion jam and micro-greens and all the other silly things chefs these days like to throw at you, check this place out.

It took me a long time to get past the name of this place and pluck up the courage to order food here. I was pleasantly surprised. That is not to say I was impressed — I was just expecting something pretty shit. Gutz is a sandwich bar café, that of course has a sandwich bar where you can make up your own doughy snack from a large range of toppings. But they also have a pretty standard diner style breakfast menu with a range of bacon, eggs, hash browns and mushrooms; and a lunch menu with burgers, chicken parma etc. None of the food is very exciting. But then again, most of the food is pretty satisfying — satisfying in the way that only greasy, salty food can be. They also have a pretty good list of vegetaian/vegan options on the menu. Personally I would rather eat at one of the many other cafes scattered along Brunswick Street or to go to one of the many great pubs for some fried food if I was that way inclined, rather than dine at Gutz. But sometimes to guzzle your guts is all you need or want to do.
