What a tired and stingy breakfast. Once Atomica used to do a lovely, generous scrambled tofu for breakfast, but the $ 18.50 breakfast I just had was small, tired and lacking in even a whisper of creativity. What a sad decline.

I really want to like this place because the food and atmosphere rules. But I just can’t seem to get anywhere with the staff every time I go in. They’re always forgetting something.

Although not that inviting to look into and the layout is rather peculiar and busy they more then made up for it with how delicious my breakfast was. I always see loads of people lining up here for coffee and my partner really enjoyed his 2 cups but I opted for the sticky coconut chai which was yummy and not too sweet! For brekky I had the croquettes which were perfect because I wasn’t hugely hungry like I would normally be and great portion size. My partner had the big brekky and it had black pudding which neither of us were a fan of, but aside all was good. Only minor annoyance was having to line up behind all the people ordering take-away coffee to pay but will definitely come back to try the brekky burrito that looks fab!

There are so many brunch places to choose from in Fitzroy, it can be a daunting decision deciding where to go, but Atomica Caffe is always a good choice. The menu changes with some regularity, but there are always interesting choices, such as the housemade corn and jalapeño croquettes I had recently. Perfectly crisp and golden on the outside and light and fluffy on the inside, served with avo smash and poached eggs. The coffee is always on point too. The interior is small and made up of mostly two-tops, so don’t go with a large group. The benches outside are not only geometrically interesting(how exactly are you supposed to sit in them?!) but also offer some of the best people watching in the area.

I came here a year ago before I left for overseas and after coming home I realised it’s the standout breakfast I had that year. I had the French toast with caramelised banana and ricotta. It was one of the greatest things I’ve ever eaten! I need to get back here ASAP!

Lovely café with a great vibe and the Coffee was what I expected… Awesome! There is a certain look and feel that melbourne’s best cafés have mastered, they are trendy and a bit artsy, which is usually a sign to me that I can expect great coffee. This place did not disappoint. I was lucky enough to be having brunch with a friend who loves food, taking pictures of it and sharing everything he gets. He was also really hungry and ordered two different items off the menu. Thus we had a feast of El Gringo, muesli, and I ordered the French toast with bacon, bananas and ricotta. The El Gringo was ridiculously good! All the different flavors on the plate combined to create one amazing dish and two happy tummies! I’m not a muesli connoisseur so I don’t have much to say, but it was very fresh, light and pleasing. The French toast is the bomb-dot-com! You have to try it! You have to make sure to get a small pice of everything in one bite. It is heaven in your mouth! I will definitely return to this place and will bring all of my overseas visitors AND tell all my friends about it. I liked it that much. Last but not least, I spoke to my friend today an he said he’s been having dreams about the French toast we had! Haha he wants to go again before he flys home to LA.

I went here twice while in Melbourne, once to grab my morning coffee(at around lunch time) and once for breakfast. I’d seen the reviews so I expected it would be good. it’s a relaxed atmosphere & a great little place to wile away some time before heading out for the day. It was really nice to just find a spot, rattle off what I wanted & be left to my own devices. The coffee was great & didn’t need sugar, though I think they have panela sugar? It’s a little fancy & a nice addition if I’m right. I had the El Gringo breakfast(at around 1:30 in the afternoon) and it’s a combination of all my favourite things. Hash, ham, poached eggs, chipotle & hollandaise. Heaven! I couldn’t eat all of it unfortunately, but was super impressed with the meal. I’d recommend it to anyone taking a jaunt down Brunswick St & in need of caffeine or food. The baked goods on the counter looked super tasty & all house-made, it’s a great addition & perfect for an afternoon treat.

Absolutely AMAZING coffee. I ordered a long flat black and it was hands down the best cup of coffee i’ve ever had. Atomica Caffe is nestled in the very hip Fitzroy district. Great place to pop in while shopping. I ordered the Atomica Breakfast. 2 perfectly poached eggs, middle bacon, toasted grain bread lightly drizzled with hollandaise. Best hollandaise i’ve ever had… and i dont even like hollandaise. Potato hash brown. Spicy chorizo. Steamed tomato half. Grilled portobello cap. All were spot on. I have absolutely no complaints about the food. Service: Friendly. Atmosphere: Laid back, hipstery. A little on the small side.

Great food, good servings, excellent coffee. What more could you ask for? There are a huge number of cafes on Brunswick St, and as someone who only visits Melbourne occasionally these days, it can be a little overwhelming. Which to go to? How do I pick? Can I just go to all of them? Atomica has been around a long time, and deservedly so. Well known for it’s coffee beans, the coffee has been great every time I’ve visited. And the food is pretty awesome too — one of the few places I’ve been to that actually makes their own hash browns. All in all, it’s hard to go to Brunswick St for breakfast and NOT go to Atomica.

Another successful stopover at Atomica café. They have the greatest gluten Free blueberry muffins, and in my opinion are the greatest GF muffins I’ve had in Melbourne. These guys also do great breakfast, with some really hearty options.

Having sampled coffees time and time again from talented roasters all over Melbourne, Sydney and even New York City, I consistently consider Atomica to be producers of the I finest beans I have ever tried. And most of the time they will make it will equal expertise. Atomica inspires me regularly. Make this your new favourite !!

Great coffee and great eggs. What else do you need in a trusty breakfast joint? Their specials are fairly spectacular so if you’re adventurous give them a try. They also to cold drip coffee… still not sure if this is just the ultimate in hipster dochey-ness or an actual foodie phenomenon… maybe they’re the same thing… ahhh whatevs.

Atomica is a coffee store, a coffee store that take their coffee very very seriously. This place is legendary within coffee circles, amongst those in the know and the owner and roaster Tolly, the humble and unassuming mastermind of this roaster knows exactly what it takes to prepare a beverage worthy and true to the long heritage of specialty and artisan coffee houses that he represents. The Art in Artisan Coffee indeed. There is a menu for food, and if they’re in the glass cabinet feel free to get one, but I make a point of not asking for food. The servers think you’re strange — «You’re in a coffe shop, and you want to eat?» — and after a few turns of quizzical stairs I let it go. The coffee is a amazing, I can eat anywhere, I don’t want my coffee anywhere else.

I hate to base a one star review on one experience, but it’s all I got to go on and I’m not going back. So I’ll preface by saying I’m sure these people do some stuff well(they’re usually pretty busy), it’s just that they never gave me the opportunity to try anything. So I walk into this place having not spent much time in Fitzroy and needing a coffee and some lunch. I sit at the table looking out on to the street and wait for a bit of service. I’m pretty happy waiting and am engrossed in my cross word before I realise I’ve been sitting for about 10 minutes, am the only customer in the place, and the bloke ‘working’ there has been on the phone the whole time. I rustle my paper and start making a-hem type sounds, to which he turns his back and keeps on talking. I give him another few minutes before folding up my paper and, now furious, walking out the door. The fucker doesn’t even notice me leave. Take as being warned.

Atomica does some seriously good coffee, which is more than enough to get me there any day of the weekend. But they also offer something else that is rare indeed amongst cafes that serve up top quality coffee to the masses. It is the fact that they have french fries with a number of their dishes on the menu. Those little golden strings of heaven will have me coming back for more any day of the week. For those of you who aren’t inexplicably obsessed with the perfectly plain yet perfectly deep fried golden french fry(after all there is nothing special about Atomica ones), then I am obliged to tell you Atomica has much much more to offer. With a well priced menu of fine breakfast and luncheon fare, I think Atomica hits the spotin almost every way. My only word of warning is the fact that there coffee is so strong you are probably not likely to be in the mood to tuck into whatever delicious meal you may have just ordered. That’s why I stick to the fries — there is always room for a bit of salty, deep fried starch no matter where your appetite may be hiding.

Very simply put, Atomica does coffee. I gauge a lot of my knowledge on one, quite discerning and outspoken friend. I parade him around town, with his tastes, to help me learn coffee. Before I moved to Fitzroy, I didn’t drink coffee for 7 years, so I’m easily impressed. Any cuppa joe with a cute design in the froth is like Marilyn Monroe on a steam grate. This guy agreed that the coffee at Atomica is some of the best. It’s good flavour, but also, and maybe more importantly(I’m not yet graduated to this level), the milk was perfectly frothed. A good, rich head on the latte. Always creamy through on the flat white. To me, it’s all the same, but I trust this friend, and his coffee-based palate. All in a cute, no-frills place, with some yummy pastries(slices, excellent savory muffins!).

I have been a long time customer of Atomica, as I firmly believe they make a ridiculously awesome coffee. I used to trek a fair distance to get to Atomica, and was very excited when I moved near by — my hungover walks to get my strong latte’s were a lot shorter! But if you go to a café for a friendly barista and some great service, Atomica may not be the place for you. The high turnover of staff means you rarely see a familiar and friendly face, and to be honest, sometimes they’d prefer to chat to each other than actually serve you. But despite all this, they make one helluva coffee and have a pretty sensational menu too.

Atomica has a reputation of being one of the best places for coffee in Fitzroy. I happen to share this opinion and will often head their way if I require a caffeine fix for the day. They also have a number of interesting muffins to choose from if I have a sweet tooth to match. In terms of food, they are pretty good as well. The menu is far from spectacularly but they do what they do well and at pretty good prices compared with a normal breakfast place in Fitzroy. In fairness the specials board is where you get that bit of razzle dazzle on the menu and it is updated fairly regularly. I’ve heard from a number of people that they are put off by the attitude they get from staff in Atomica, however, I’ve never found this to be the case. Service is always great when I get takeout coffees and when I eat there the staff have always been friendly and fairly attentive.

With the many cool, new cafes opening in Fitzroy that focus on great coffee and simple dishes, Atomica Café is an ‘oldie but a goody’ that continues to stand out. Although the café is in serious need of a new coat of paint, the aesthetics can be ignored when there is good coffee, food, and service. Arguably, the coffee is one of the best in Fitzroy. When having a take away coffee, the staff is prompt — you are in and out with your coffee. However, on more than one occasion, staff has forgotten to put my coffee through when eating in. This problem is usually resolved quickly. The food, whilst not innovative, is done well. My favourite is the BLAT(bacon, lettuce, avocado, and tomato) and their potato salad, which is usually a special of the day. The staff, quite your typical ‘cool’ café servers, is friendly enough. Just a reminder: They do not accept cards, only cash. Slightly annoying? A little bit.
