Randomly stepped in here drunkenly one night and caught a band finishing up. Really cool, small, intimate venue with really friendly folk. Didn’t get to see much, but loved our drinks and the music and the random conversations. Will return here for sure.

I’ve been here a few times and have enjoyed it every time. It is an eco-friendly bar and they have a lot of vegetarian options on the menu — sadly i’ve never eaten here, only had some drinks. Have to come back to try the food as it looks delicious. There is a pretty awesome beer garden out the back which was really nice to sit at on a sunny day. We’ve been here at night once for a live band, don’t remember who as we’d had a few drinks by that stage, but they were good! The last time i visited was on a Friday afternoon, just after lunch. It was super quiet and i enjoyed my beer on the really comfy chair out the front on the street. Was good just to sit back at watch people pass me by on Smith Street. Could have stayed for hours. They have a really good selection of local beers on tap and a huge selection of bottled beers. Definately a bar i’d like to hang out at more. I hear they have a pretty amazing trivia night as well, which i’ll have to make it to soon!

I recently reacquainted myself with this place after staying away for a while… I am glad that I did. Try to head upstairs and chill on one of the comfy couches.

Grumpy’s Green is a name that I used to get wrong for the first year that I was coming here. Not that they minded as they served me great food and cider with some live music played by a guy who was a bit self conscious of how he looked behind a keyboard. Fun times.

I’ve given it five stars for the trivia night. In my ever so humble opinion, Grumpy’s probably hosts the best weekly trivia night going. The questions are hard, but not impossible, and the prizes are very decent(even more so considering it costs a whole NOTHING to play). Grumpy’s is an eco-friendly bar, trying very hard to be carbon-neutral, environmentally and ethically considerate with what they produce. This means that you’ll find«token meat dishes» on the menu instead of the poor token«vegies stirred through pasta» vegetarian option you’ll find at most restaurants. A lovely place to pop into and escape the outside world of a busy afternoon.

Found on Smith street amongst the main eating district, Grumpy’s caters for all. This«pub plus» dining experience has booths upstairs for the intimate and isolated, where you can feed each other romantically — there used to be curtains but I don’t think they’re there today. Downstairs has larger seating areas, couches and the like for larger louder groups. Meals in all sizes, from cheese toasties to sizable risottos and more. Bands playing most active nights, usually a blues number that may find the owner of the place onstage playing along.

Grump’s Green is typical to Fitzroy, decked out in retro styled furnishings, worn and comfy couches and an exposed brick wall. It serves some very tasty vegetarian cuisine that is tempting and flavoursome enough for even the hungriest meat eater. Grump’s Green is a little alternative, and sometimes maybe a bit too relaxed, celebrating a birthday at the restaurant we had a decent sized group of hungry ladies and gentlemen and found it a little unorthodox having to sit all around one tiny coffee table with our meals on our laps! We ordered a selection of curries, burgers and tapas style dishes and although the serves and flavours were great, when asking for a spoon from the kitchen the waiter told us there wasn’t any left so we couldn’t have anymore. Grumpy’s Green only dishes up food found in Victoria which is great for local growers and produces they also use soy candles for guests to dine by encouraging us to opt for green energy.

BEERGARDEN! And the nachos are the bomb. The veggie burgers are spectacular and lots of food for the money! Go in the evenings for live music, and the bar staff is so great and feels like you’re really hanging out with them. TRIVIA! Wednesdays. 7:30pm. You really can’t miss this. It’s such a cool place, cool vibe, comfy couches, did I mention BEERGARDEN, and it’s eco-friendly.
