Clear It

No matter how many times you have been there and searched through every rack you can find, you will always find something else.
This place has everything, from exotic dresses to plain t shirts to hamburger phones! But everything has one thing in common… It’s all really cheap! It’s got great stock for any season and they’ve organised it so that if your a fancy, expensive, alannah hill type buyer, you would suit down stairs, where as if your a cheap yet stylish and exotic buyer, well upstairs is for you!
I always find something there and it will forever be my favourite place to buy clothes

I hope you are not afraid of a good rummage, because Clear iT gives new meaning to the word «shambles». If someone designed a bomb that ejected hipster clothing haphazardly, to confuse and defeat your spirit, this is it. However, seeing how it’s not my duty to clean it up I like to DIVE RIGHT IN!
Seek and ye shall find Gorman shoes, incredible Alannah Hill creations (sometimes needing a little love and untangling), Dangerfield bags and wallets often 2 for $ 10, tights, fabric and Pulp Kitchen, Princess Highway and Black Friday clothes. I’ve scored Alannah Hill frocks from $ 24 and I once picked up a $ 300 Peter Lang necklace for $ 5 after unhooking from a fascinator it hitched a ride with. What it was doing there is beyond me!
Head upstairs first. You won’t be able to bring your downstairs items up with you, and leaving them with the assistant at the door is a bit of a pain. Upstairs is super hot in Summer, the change rooms downstairs are much more pleasant to use. Downstairs has plenty of clothes and frocks and Alannah accessories and of course, the registers — two most days, three if they are super busy.
I visit Clear iT so often that the staff make a joke of it. Oh, the staff, always turning over, there must be twenty of them, and all of them are DARLINGS! So sweet and funny and ready to give you a bit more of a discount if you ask politely. Eg. «Oh jeeze, I reckon I could sew this button back on if someone was to give me this shirt a little cheaper…» Don’t expect them to offer assistance though, you must ask them for help or advice.
Despite my CONSTANT suggestions, they are yet to offer shopping baskets — I generally buy a $ 5 tote and cram my shopping in, although make sure you don’t look like you are shoplifting — that’s probably a bad suggestion actually… Make sure you look for security tags and point them out to the cashier — sometimes they miss them and you’ll need to return to et them removed. Try on any clothes you are going to buy — don’t take it for granted that they will fit as some are samples and certainly not the size the tag represents. Inspect zips on bags and pulled threads on scarves.
If you are looking for a racing frock and fascinator, get in two months early — everything is snapped by October.

This huge room is full of samples and end of season sales from Dangerfield, St. Lenny’s, Alannah Hill and Gorman.
Nothing like picking up a bargain. The majority of the stock is 20% — 50% off, which is great but the thing is the stock might also be the stuff that didn’t really sell out in the first few moments it hit the shelves. So you have to expect that what you’re getting isn’t the best stuff from their collections.
Regardless there’s lots to rummage through.
There’s a great pile of bags upstairs and up the back of the shop, with 2 for $ 10 specials. Sure, a lot of the bags there are rubbish, but if you rummage deep enough, you’ll find a good canvas backpack and side bag like I did.
Not the best stuff but also not the worst.

It seriously is not the place you want to go if you are:
a. agoraphobic
b. messaphobic (the place is ALWAYS a mess)
c. ADHD (because you’ll never leave)
But for fun shopping this is a hoot. You could find a Halloween costume, or a gift for that random friend who invited you to a party and you’ve not spoken in months, or even if you just want a headband coated with a fake hair to look like a weave.
This place needs a lot of time of digging through racks, but can be a fun waste of a rainy afternoon. Tons of great deals, too, that seem to never be accurately marked so always get a price-​check before thinking the price is too high… it’s probably inaccurate.

Woah. I don’t think I have ever seen so many clothes in the one place before. Dresses, cardi’s, singlets and jackets — Clear It has it all.
But to be honest, I have been inside a million and one times and never walked out with anything. You know how when you drop in to your favourite shop and they have a sale rack and although everything looked pretty a week ago, when it’s on that rack it looks a little sad? That’s what this whole store is… Everything looks just a little bit sad.
I get that it is a clearance centre, but high-​price label designers in a bargain store? It just doesn’t sit well… Plus, nothing is really that cheap? Unless you consider $ 85 for a satin singlet cheap.
My favourite section of the entire store is the ‘damaged’ section, where you can usually find the really good, new stuff, but perhaps a button is missing. If you are in this store, head to that rack, everything else might make you cry.

When ever I have friends in town who love a good bargain, I bring them to Clear It on Brunswick Street. Although I have to admit that, often I end up buying more stuff than my friends. Once you’ve been here, you’ll wonder why you ever shopped full price!

Depending on what you’re looking for, you can pick up super cheap t-​shirts, glamorous dresses ($ 50 and up) and a truck full of blouses, day dresses, jackets, scarves and hats. It’s the bargain hunters dream come true — but remember it’s a warehouse store, not a boutique — so you really have to look carefully and dig deep.
I’d give yourself at least an hour depending how much you want to spend. The best thing about this place is, you’re free to roam about without pesky sales staff following you around.

A game I love to play at Clear It! in Fitzroy is the $ 1 game. It’s quite straightforward: you go in with a dollar, and try to buy the coolest thing you can. I’ve walked out with a shoe phone, jewellery, a belt, once even a rather spiffy hat.
Clear It! sells off samples and out of season Alannah Hill, Dangerfield and the Dangerfield sub-​brands and heavily reduced prices.
It’s very easy to spend hours here rifling through every single rack and basket in this massive two-​storey warehouse to find the many gems on offer. The staff love to leave you completely alone while you do, so if you do need help, make sure you go right ahead and ask. They don’t bite, it’s just not that kind of shop. But really, who needs a sales assistant popping up behind your shoulder as you marvel at the hilariously hideous dress you’ve just pulled out? It would ruin the fun, a little, don’t you think?

Clear iT (‘scuse stupid nonsensical spelling) is an outlet store on Fitzroy’s Brunswick Street stocking labels such as Alannah Hill, Friends of Couture, Gorman and Princess Highway at often ludicrously low knock down prices.
A huge factory type space with rail upon rail of womens clothes by a handful of Australian high street and designer labels, Clear iT has a particularly expansive range of Alannah Hill’s pretty party frocks and skirts at up to 70% off.
I needed to find a ball dress in a hurry a couple of weekends ago and could think of nowhere better to go than Clear iT. After spending an hour or so perusing the store’s incredible array of stock I settled on an Alannah Hill party dress for $ 100 — down from $ 400 odd.
The atmosphere is young and fun, the changing rooms generous in number, while prices really are astonishing. A definite destination for designer loving gals who baulk at the sometimes-​ludicrous price tags.
