Standout coffee in the north fitz hood & as the name says its a great place to stop for a fresh loaf. Biodynamic & organic bread. Yum! They produce tasty sweet and savoury pastries but make sure you drop in around Easter and try their delicious hot x buns. Friendly and upbeat staff really make this neighbourhood café.

Loafer like a shoe. Bread like a bread. Loafer is all about incredible quality of product with as least pretentiousness as possible. They do the most amazing sourdough, incredible biscuits and pastries. Their cardamom –aced hot cross buns are worth fighting tooth and nail to get a hold of(and you may have to do just that) Where the place lost me a little was at lunch. Here a side salad costs extra, which pushed the meals and their small serving sides up and out of reach. When this side salad is three lettuce leaves beside your tiny quiche(however tasty) part of you thinks you’ve been had. One on occasion I actually brought my own salad to have with instead, as long as they don’t notice it should be fine. And the coffee is amazing, makes everything bright!

Alright here it is… ‘This place has the best croissant in Melbourne’. Phew I said it, now I feel relieved. I’ve been wanting to give that information to someone for a while now. I was lucky enough to be wandering along Scotchmer St about a year ago and spied the croissants through the window, sitting in the cutest shelving system I’ve seen in a while. I popped in, to a delightfully temperature maintained simple bakery room. The smell hit me and I almost melted. I ordered and took a couple of croissants to a friend’s. Seriously amazing. They cover everything: light fluffy, flaky, crunchy, layered. This place looks like a traditional bakery in a European village — I love it. I have been coming back ever since. They also make everything else amazingly well. The bread is again reminiscent of a European bakery and the do sweet things scrumptiously.

This place is cute as a mother fuckin’ button. It’s so tiny and sweet and it smells great and the staff are real at-home-baker-types. Ah, loafer… you give me the warm fuzzy’s. There are many ‘best’ things about Loafer, which is interesting in itself given that they only do a few things. Their Coffee is Supreme(from NZ) and is absolutely on the money every time. Their bread selection is small but exceptional, they don’t bake a bad loaf ever. Their cakes are truly special, and their gingerbread men are a little walk down memory lane and a great option for those whiny kids. ‘Mum, I want something,’ they say. ‘Here you go sweety,’ says Mum. ‘I want another one. There’s no more, shut up!‘ You get the picture…
