This place did not have a listing until I entered the details on Unilocal.How can this possibly be? King of Tonga is an Elwood institution. It has the feel of a hidden laneway, CBD bar — yet here it is right on Tennyson stuffed between a Laundromat and a magazine shop. Inside, you are transported to another world. Now, this world has a little bit of identity problem: part tiki bar, part vintage sex shop, part hazy dive bar where dreams go to die. The happy hour is ludicrously cheap, but it’s not for those who work or have any kind of obligations. It runs 3 – 5 weekdays and 12 – 3 weekends. Not sure what kinds of trouble happens here late night, but I think it’s worth finding out.
