Best breakfast I’ve had for a long time. I had the Dukkah breakfast with kale, egg, beetroot, halloumi cheese and it was delicious! Nice coffee too, which is obviously critical ;) Right around the corner from my house makes this my new weekend go-to.

I have been to Ernest V 5 times in the past 5 weeks for various meet ups or book clubs and the food is fantastic? They make the very best smashed avo and quinoa porridge in town. Love it and would highly recommend.

Wandering around in a new part of town isn’t always easy and just as we were about to begin drooling we stumbled upon Ernest V. What a cool place! The deco is fun with tiled walls and all sorts of people seemed to be going into the place. The service is friendly and I enjoyed our meal there. I got the full medames with fried egg and avocado, and my friends ordered the dukkah chicken pizza(YUM!) and the big breakfast. I saw a dish that I really want to try because the person eating it made it seem so tasty… not sure of the name but it looked like it was in a paella pan with chorizo in it. I would love to try that next time I visit Ernest V.

Since when have I not written a review for Ernest V? I’ve been coming here for years. Alright, up until today I’ve always thought of Ernest V as a simple, sweet and not overly special café. It was the coffee that was the deciding point for me. The food is quite nice with a whole array of little snacks to choose from. You know you want to give them a try. I love the deco and I love how friendly the staff are but I found I rarely came here as the coffee never really hit the spot. That is, until today of course. I was off to Aviv with a friend of mine when I mentioned that I could go for a coffee. I started brainstorming cafés on Glenhuntly Road and those of which who had good coffee. Ernest V came to mind but as a back-up. That is when my friend informed me that they have changed their beans and that the coffee there has really improved. I had to try it out. Today was just a take-away but I really did notice this apparent improvement. It was the first time that I have really enjoyed a coffee from Ernest V. The only disappointing thing was that I forgot to ask which beans they use now, oh well. I’ve come here on a number of occasions over the last few year: to relax, to study, to meet up with friends. I do like that Ernest V has a liquor licence as I’m quite fond of Fat Yak, which I’ve had here a few times. Out of all the cafés on the street, I would recommend Ernest V the highest. Give it a go, you won’t be disappointed.

Hmmmm. Pretty good. Thank you to bagelicious for closed, as I got to try this place. Istra bacon sits proudly on this menu. A little ironic given the location of the café, but, this neighborhood represents a mixed crowd culturally. So it was an unexpected café stop, but not a bad one. The menu is quite good, but alcohol selection is easy to avoid as it doesn’t impress well. It is quite pleasant inside. Good choice for breakfast/lunch/food on this strip or area of Glenhuntly Road. It’s also very busy indeed so you may just want to factor that in, if you venture inside.

I may live to regret it, but I have given Ernest V a 5 on the basis of their great food. While their coffee is commendable, it is not exceptional, however the quality of the food here is quite competitive, at very reasonable prices. I recommend the quinoa porridge with roast pear for breakfast, and the vegetable salad for lunch, both memorable feeds that I make an effort to go back for from time to time, with no variation in standard to date.

Not sure why the previous reviewers are so down on this place. It has some good food, excellent coffee, tasty muffins, and some nice outdoor seating in the back.

I popped in for some brunch on a whim with a friend and was very pleasantly surprised! Coffee was great, friendly and enthusiastic staff and a breakfast that was filling, tasty and not too expensive. For me, any breakfast that is verging on $ 20 is crazy! There have been some not so great reviews from when this venue opened a few months ago and I say that they must of picked up their game as I will definitely be back! Definitely try the Eggs Shaksuka, spicy and delicious! Would love to go back for lunch.

I’ve been feeling really guilty lately. You see, I first visited this place when it had just opened. The food was beyond bland — tasteless rather — the service came in the form of what I only imagined to be the owner desperate to ‘network’ with her customers, the coffee predominantly comprised air bubbles, and the prices were stupidly high. So I may have, just a little, wished that this place would fail. Just a little. I mean, it was more of just a passing thought, fleeting if you will. So you can only imagine my fright when I walked past the other day to find it completely and utterly empty. Did I do this? I hope not. Perhaps customers are just really attune to being ripped off, and perhaps their taste buds are relatively apt at distinguishing between good food and Ernest V’s food. Either way, I can’t imagine this place will be around for much longer.

Ernest V is a relatively new café along Glenhuntly Road and I was keen to give it a try before it started to get busy. The menu had some very interesting items on it originally and was perhaps too exotic as they were axed by the time I went back only a few weeks later. Since then it has seemed to just take the usual breakfast meals and put a little spin on them such as using dukkah haloumi or hash browns to give the meals some appeal. I feel like I just navigated down to the toast area where I end up getting something very«non-flashy» due to the meals being a tad expensive. The coffee is decent enough but sometimes there is no music playing and when it’s quiet it has an awkward vibe. One even bigger let down is the service. I’ve been there several times and without fail there has been a mix up or something has been forgotten. It’s a little sad really because it is a nice space with plenty of potential. There is a beautiful big dark wooden table in the centre and should be appealing and act as the centrepiece but it doesn’t and usually is just covered in newspaper. Hopefully they can improve a few areas and give it the edge it deserves.
