Used to serve a good coffee but we had a terrible bitter and too flat«flat white» — lots of choices around this area

Jean Louis Joseph is a café come gourmet food store on the lower level of the Birkinhead Shopping Centre at Drummoyne. Its shelves are stocked full of imported jars, cans, bottles and packets of things that you will probably only use once when making a fancy dish out of a Marco Pierre White cookbook to impress your friends. There also is a deli bar for sliced meats, antipasti and cheeses. Right alongside is the café area with wide tables and a very large communal table that would fit about 16 people. I ordered a simple café latte to dine in. The café didn’t seem busy but it was an appalling wait of at least 20 minutes and still no sight of it. When I approached the ordering area and enquired as to the whereabouts of the missing coffee I was told simply that«it’s on its way»(and so is Christmas in three days). No apology. And when it did arrive five minutes later — no apology. Was it a mind-blowing caffein experience as you would hope so from ordering from such an impressive name as Jean Louis Joseph? No — it was just ordinary like the service. Disappointed — one star.

This place is pretty nice. Lots of tables to sit on alongside the indoor alleyway towards the marina. I can only comment on the coffee as that’s all i had. Didn’t wait too long as there were ample staff on hand to assist people with either food orders or deli orders. Ordered a piccolo and browsed the shelves whilst waiting. The menu looked impressive and more toward the pricey end. All meals were around the $ 22 mark. Place wasn’t too busy during the mid week lunch but i would suspect it would be pretty packed in on weekends! Overall, Great Piccolo!

Ok, the range of cakes and tarts are pretty impressive. The food however is blander than hearing my accounting teacher talk about her life. Never before have I actually left more than 50% of food on my plate after paying $ 25 for the meal. The coleslaw was really bland, tasted like I was eating butter out of the fridge, the burger was so old and also tasted like off butter and the chips were so dead that they tasted like cardboard. The service was friendly however. Still doesn’t make up for the lack of quality with the food however. I wouldn’t recommend going here for lunch or coffee(the coffee is terrible). I would recommend the cakes though. Cakes 9⁄10

Great coffee and cakes. Service has always been friendly whenever I go here. Their lunch menu is pretty nice and priced reasonably. I love the range of cakes they have(note :the mini cake cabinet is not at the café bit). This visit I had a latte and banana bread. The banana bread isn’t as sweet as the mass produced style banana bread that you usually get from other cafes. Not sure if they bake it themselves but it was ssoo nice and soft. 2 thumbs up, I’ll always come back here.
