Yachiyo makes its own soy sauce, because they think commercially available soy sauce isn’t thick enough. These people are serious about their craft. Fish is fresh and the dishes are inventive but not Westernized. Highly recommended.

The Karaage Gozen is a set of dishes that will fill you up. From miso soup to start the meal and ends with a rich chocolate dessert. The overall set of dishes are amazingly yummy. A must try.

Tiny little spot in the kings cross area packed to every inch. Reservation needed! The food was exceptional and can’t really give it any negative feedback. We went for the duck, steak and sushi rice bowl, All exceptional! My favourite things was the blue tip tuna(fatty tuna) it was literally melt in your mouth like butter!

From Order To Table: Perfect Timing. Like a cold beer on a hot day. Service-ometer: Cookie cutter. Stomachability: 10⁄10. Ask for recommendations of the day — never disappointed. Digest suggest: Impress a friend with this BYO hide-away. A gem in Sydney! It’s amazing how great this restaurant is, and how it manages to stay so hidden. Have eaten here a couple of times over the past couple of years and have always been amazed at how special this place is. Sake selection is amazing, I’m often not very fond of Sake but this place is amazing. And you get to try it too before you choose one! Can’t say much else except once you try this you’ll probably be very underwhelmed by other Japanese in Syd.

Wow, very impressed with the cooked food here. I am normally visiting San Francisco sushi and I’d say that the fish in SF is better, but the cooked food here is miles better. Don’t get me wrong, the raw fish here was very good, just that I’ve had better. On a side note, the sake selection was great. Our server let us taste several before ordering.

Although slightly hard to find on the first visit, the massive range of dishes both hot and cold, and the unique craft beers on offer really do go down a treat! I recommend to book ahead too as it does get busy! Try this one! :D

Tucked away underneath fine diner Tomislav in Darlinghurst, this little place is a hideout for in the know locals who flock to sample well-executed Japanese dishes with a twist. It can be hard to get a table if you arrive during the main dinner session, but pairs of guests can be easily seated at the bar as an alternative to the usual table option. The menu is extensive, but don’t go past the specials board which features market fresh fish and unique creations of the day. Like the kingfish sukiyaki I tried on my last visit there. I’d only ever seen sukiyaki done before with beef or tofu, but Yachiyo’s version with the thinly sliced fish sitting in a hot, kind of sweet soy based broth was an elegant take on the traditional dish. The mixed sashimi was also memorable, with butter soft, finely sliced strips of fish that were a lot more pleasant to chew than your standard sushi train offering.
