Having relocated to Sydney from North America, I had longed for good ribs. I was always recommended Hurricanes to fill that void. We went there during the Christmas season and might I add, be prepared to wait. There was a massive queue that crowded the entire restaurant front and the mall hall way. During the wait, you can order drinks from the bar, however they are rather pricey for the typical stuff. Nonetheless we were seated roughly 30 minutes later. I knew exactly what I wanted and ordered the full rack of pork ribs with sweet potato fries, although it was quite pricey. When the meal arrived, I was initially very pleased as the full rack looked quite large, although it ended up being mainly bones. The sauce on the ribs was a delicious sweet bbq. I still couldn’t finish the full rack in one sitting but as part of my initial plan, it became my left overs for tomorrows dinner. These are still the best ribs that I’ve had in Sydney, although will continue searching for a better value meal.

Need some awesome ribs? You can’t go wrong here. Vegetarians and Vegans need not apply here.

(Apologies to vegetarians/non-pork eaters in advance!) If you ever go to Sydney, you must at least have the Hurricanes full-rack pork ribs pairing it with some Sweet Potato fries(special order, you gotta ask for it)! Basically a must eat! Certainly should take the challenge to get the full rack, but for ladies, I recommend share a full rack. Sweet potato fries are awesome too! Ask them for some extra source and you are so sorted! I would have easily given them 5 stars, unfortunately it is a grill place so sometimes they can over cook the pork. Like all meat, once it’s over cooked, it’s wasted!

A local friend brought me here as this is supposed to be one of the«must try» barbecue places in Sydney. I have to say, I was not disappointed. We both ordered a slab of bbq ribs and bbq chicken. The bbq basting sauce is a perfect blend of sweet with a hint of spicy. Not overwhelming, just right. The chicken was a hearty serving as well with two large breasts if I recall correctly. Beverage-wise we had two of their cocktails. I had the ginger spicito, anything ginger I love. This came with Captain Morgan as the liquor with a ginger liqueur, fresh ginger slices, mint leaves, lime wedges and sugar syrup. A very refreshing drink, kind of reminded me of a mojito, but not as minty. My friend had an «ohayo» which I liked more than the ginger spicito. This came with watermelon liqueur, fresh lychee, lime slices, a candied delicious hibiscus flower over crushed ice. Highly recommend this one. The food and drinks were great. And lest not forget, a good view of Darling Harbour as well.

We decided to come here last night during the epic torrential down pour because we seem to love seeing if we can, contrary to popular belief, walk in the rain and enjoy it. Maybe trying a lighter rain shower next time might work better. I spent 6 hours of the day in wet clothes with water filled shoes. This was my way of enjoying a nice dinner while I kicked off my soggy squealchy shoes and dug into something tasty that I didn’t have to cook & hope that I dried out a bit while I ate. We walked in without a reservation last night about 7.30/8pm — they took us straight in and sat us on the outside thing that was enclosed yet still loud at certain points from the hail hitting the tin roof so you couldn’t keep having a conversation with your dinner partners. We ordered a bottle of wine for the lasses, the boys had some beers and we settled in for quite a bit of meat. There were ribs, ribs and steaks, combinations, salads and bibs. Mostly I think they bring out the bibs because it makes me giggle watching grown men have bibs tied around their necks by wait staff. I know, I have a funny tickle bone… Just be aware that this place is pricey. I ordered their regular steak sirloin. I got a flat bit of meat that was a bit tasteless to be honest and for nearly $ 30 I was expecting more meat and a bit more flavour. The guys loved their ribs though and were happily munching through their racks which was a good thing. Service was spot on if not a bit constant. We had 3 or 4 different wait staff interrupt our dinner to ask us if the food was ok, the first being our waitress, who I thought should be the only one asking. But apparently not, the rest of the guys wanted a go to. I just found it annoying to be constantly interrupted in the middle of conversation to get asked again if we were enjoying the food. I figure saying«yes, it’s good» once is more than enough! I was interested to hear the rest of the story that my companion was telling. Either way, this place gets packed. It seems that it’s always busy, but I’m not sure why when their steak leaves a lot to be desired.

Meh it’s just a tourist trap. It’s way over priced and the full rack of ribs is pretty much all bone. I doubt I got more than 250g of meat out of a full rack of pork ribs. The smell of the food cooking from outside the restaurant is much better than the flavour of the ribs them self. Pretty disappointing really.

the ribs tastes awesome! And the restaurant is near the darling harbour, a good place to spend the great night with friends.

Too much hype again. Why is there a queue for this? I had half a rack & it was a lot. The taste is so-so. The bib is hilarious.

Tourist trap? You betcha! Located in Darling Harbor, 2nd level of the mall. The food itself isn’t bad. Expensive side because of the high tourist traffic. Hurricane has a nice bbq/steak menu. We actually didn’t have to wait too long for a table considering it was the Aussie summer, it was a weekend and there were tons of people. Yes and thumbs up on their bbq(pork ribs). The steak was decent but something you’d find at an Outback steak house in the US. Full bar and beers available. Our lunch experience was top off with our cute young American waitress. Yes, she was from Virginia. Had a slight Aussie accent and left the US to pursue school in Sydney. Good luck! You were an awesome waitress and thanks for the selfie with my son! LOL!

So yummy! Their bread is super yummy, the caesar side salad is eh but very filling — so much so that I was full before the main course! their half rack of pork ribs was AWESOME. Literally fell off the bone and melted in my mouth. Had it with sweet potato fries — drool, drool, drool. Sat outdoors and they had plastic walls to keep the wind out. Great view of the weekly Saturday night fireworks in Darling Harbour. Surprised that such a nice spot is in the middle of a mall.

We made a reservation as we went there for a work lunch. However we still had to wait when we got there. We were given a table at the balcony and being a colder day than usual, it was freezing. They had the heaters running but they weren’t very effective. I ordered the combo ribs and steak and the food was good. Food’s a little on the pricey side but the portion sizes are quite large too.

I stood at the entrance for a solid three minutes. My body language screamed help me. I even tried to wave someone down. Nothing. I looked at the menu because 1) hello(!) it means I want to be helped and 2) I wanted to check out the fare. I know it is tourist central, but the prices were way too high. For a family of 4, it would honestly be cheaper to take a train or bus into a cute neighborhood and find a ma and pay place that does ribs really well.

When was the last time you step foot into a Hurricanes joint? And how did it compare to the very first time you got a bib put around your neck from their staff? Really wonder what the hype is with their ribs and with Hurricanes in general? My first Hurricanes experience had me savouring for more ribs and more bbq sauce, craving to see those ultimate racks once again. And the more you go there the more you realise they’re really average and even at times, less than average. We went there tonight for a gathering and got the Mussels and Ribs + Portuguese Chicken combo. Utterly disappointed. Not only was the food cold, the meat was mega dry and the chicken breast was just beyond chewable. What happened to the once famous Hurricanes ribs? Do all restaurants lose quality when they open too many franchise stores? Yet there are still heaps of eager punters waiting for a table only going to be disappointed. Please do let me know when their quality is back to the original?

Hurricane’s is pretty much known for one thing, and one thing only… ribs. If you come here and don’t get the ribs(PORK,) you should shame yourself with a sign on the side of the road saying«I failed at Hurricane’s.» Not getting ribs here is akin to a bunch of vegetarians going to a BBQ restaurant and asking for vegetarian options. Epic fail. Why wait 20 – 60 minutes(yes the queue is massive) for a restaurant if you won’t get their speciality? Especially if the rest of their food is mediocre… Did I mention that you should get the ribs? If you don’t and order anything else you will probably have a bad time, as the rest of their food isn’t worth the long wait… including the steak. GETTHERIBS

It was a «hurricane» in that there was a ton of people of people waiting to eat at this restaurant which was next to Darling Harbour. The BBQ Ribs that they were famous for was not that good in that it was a little bland and char… I had better in California and at a cheaper price. I was expecting something of a higher quality, but nothing surprising. The server was nice and attentive at times, but I find it weird that she asked us if we want bread and butter when it complimentary of the restaurant… thought they would just bring it. Nice to try out and come since I know people rave about this place and perfect to see the firework after dinner, which was beautiful!

Very hard to review this place; being a tourist spot you typically do not start off with high expectations; however I was pleasantly surprised by what at first glance appeared would be a typical ribs place. To start with the service was above average and efficient, service came quickly and accurately yet you could still discuss options without being huffed at always a goof sign. Next the food came cooked perfectly, I eat rare and indeed that is what I got, the colleague next to me got his well done satisfactory too! All served together for a table of ten — terrific job. And considering the views if darling harbour the prices seemed okay, at least to someone used to Perth pricing. The only reason for not giving it five out if five, would be the cramped feeling around the tables and the limited drinks menu a really surprising visit.

I normally avoid Darling Harbour at all costs, but I will come here for ribs without complaining. The«special» beef short ribs are particularly tasty. Cocktails were watery(a great sin in my book!) Service is cheery and appears to be oriented towards American tourists …

Hurricane of flavors ! Three of us went to Harborside mall for dinner on a Sunday evening. Luckily, there was no queue and we got a table within ten minutes. Our server Chaya was really sweet. We chatted a bitgirl and promptly took our order. For starters we had Fried calamari and garlic bread. Calamari was accompanied with scented rice and a sour dip. Garlic bread was crispy from outside and soft inside. It was served on an interesting wooden tray. My partner and I ordered Steak and Half rack(Pork) with Chips. It was drool-worthy ! Succulent ribs loaded with delicious sauces made a mean dinner :). We opted for Pepper gravy which I dont think was a wise choice. Should have gone with something somber. My friend had a steak with jacket potato and a sour gravy(I don’t remember the name). We gulped down the food with bear and diet coke. We ended the meal with a Tiramisu– a perfect end to a gastronomical journey. The entire meal costed us around 150AUD. I would rate this place as must try !

I booked Hurricanes at Darling Harbour for my 27th Birthday Party in June. I had 25 guests and we ordered from the set menu which was $ 65 per person. The menu was pretty good. For $ 65 per person we were able to get salad and bread for the table, and then choose a main. For the main you could choose from steak, salmon, a vegetarian platter, and the famous ribs — either half or full. Even if you ordered a full rack of ribs, it was still the same price — AWESOME value! The food came out quickly, and there was great service. It was a bit hectic with 25 people and 25 different orders but it all worked out well. The restaurant is loud and noisy, and on Saturday night there is always fireworks at 9pm at Darling Harbour which was nice. I like Hurricane’s! The food was awesome and I had a great time there.

Hmmm. After coming to Hurricane’s several times with tourist friends, I’ve realized I really should stop. I’ve always come here on the premise that it’s one of Sydney’s go to places for ribs and steak, but now I’m not so sure… I went here on a Monday night. Bookings are essential, otherwise you will have to wait a long time even on a weeknight. Since I had a booking, we got seated almost immediately. The food itself is OK. We ordered the meat platter which came with ribs, steak, lamb, sausages, and chicken wings. It came fairly quickly. Now, the food is decent, but not outstanding; I can honestly say that these aren’t the best ribs/steak/lamb/sausages/chicken wings I’ve had in Sydney, so not sure if I can still justify coming here. It’s also a bit pricy. I recommend coming here if you’re already in the Darling Harbour area and want to go for ribs. Go somewhere else if you want the«best» meat in the Sydney, in terms of taste and value for money.
