I love their smashed avocado with poached eggs, lemon and mushroom on the side. Their eggs are cooked to perfection, every single time. They’re perfectly wobbly. They glisten on the plate, and the yolk is deliciously runny when cut. It’s a little exy, but these guys can cook. The interior is that pared-back industrial style feel, with polished concrete with warm timber tables. Overall, it’s stylish in that hipster kind of way(so fashionable right now). It’s nit-picking, but the feel is a little too cold for me to truly love it, stylish as it is. The food is far more comfortable however, and Rob and his team take an interest in you. I highly recommend it.

There’s not a lot of pleasant casual dining in the Dandenong area so this was a lovely find. A nice atmosphere — almost expected to see a wood fire around the corner(alas, no such luck). I first went here for a weekday lunch when they were fairly busy, and had a beautiful braised lamb, and eggplant chips. My second visit was on Saturday at 10am(they were quiet) with my three year old son. We had french toast(beautiful) and the big breakfast. The big breakfast was nice but on reflection I think it was a bit heavy on the protein & salty food and some more vegetables, or even a tomato chutney would even it out. The staff were friendly and when they made a small error with my order they were very helpful and apologetic. I appreciate that the food is largely local and seasonal, and the quality was fantastic.

After a morning of car browsing, my wife and I decided to give Ginger Jones a try due to the fact we were in the area anyway. We were greeted friendly and informed on Saturdays there is basically an all day breakfast menu and a few small pieces of lunchtime fare. We decided to stay and were pleasantly surprised by the décor and ambiance, white washed brick walls and polished concrete floors really do it for me. I ordered a pot of chai latte and was thrilled to find it was real chai spices served strained through HOT milk. For lunch, my wife had a chicken pot pie which she enjoyed and I had a grilled prawn salad with a canteloupe salsa and although not a fan of the fruit, I really enjoyed it. Service is friendly and atmosphere pleasant. Would definitely go back during the week for a larger menu selection.

This little café as it looks off the outside is huge in the inside. One of the worst problems you’ll face is getting a place that serves good food and coffee as you go further from the CBD. Thankfully these guys have solved some of that problem. The place is large with a carefully, homely and comfortable design that won’t alienate you. The staff are really nice coming over to see if you need something without any feelings of intimidation. The foods are priced on an average of AU$ 15 – 20. So if you are in the area, don’t hesitate to give this place a try and you won’t regret it.

To celebrate the fact I’ve reached the milestone of 250 reviews, I decided to go on a little adventure to mark the occasion. That adventure was down to Ginger Jones Café in Lonsdale Street Dandenong. It’s time for something different aside from my usual Melbourne outings. Located on the Inbound side of the main drag, Ginger Jones occupies an impressive and well thought out modern space. Design elements are clean and minimal yet retain warmth, function and purpose. Think welcoming but also modern, minimal and sleek. A nice little fit out and on par with Melbourne’s more recent dining better dining options. Coffee? Yes it’s good! I should know being the so far, six year long heavy coffee drinker that I am, and going through the third wave and all that trendy hipster coffee stuff. This passes my test. Long black and short Mac, done very well. Food? The prices are very reasonable, considering the fact that most places these days will expect upwards of $ 20 for a breakfast. Here, it’s all scaled from around$ 13– 18, depending on what you want. But have comfort in the fact that there are options, and that these options allow you to design breakfast by adding extras. The breakfast sandwich combines two hearty slices of exceptional qaulity breadwith good qaulity butter, Awesome relish, Swiss cheese, bacon and two fried eggs, Brill! As is the Gauc. Lunching options here maintain to the current trend of all things American, for which Melbourne has a particular fondness towards currently. Win! Good Olé, Sticky chicken ribs and wings, a Burger with onion rings, Cajun seasoned fries with chipolte mayo, Mac and four cheese, Ox cheek, veal schnitzel and other cool things such as sides, salads and daily made baguettes, which you may just have to peruse in your own time and perhaps even venture down. Comfortable and on it’s game inside, Ginger Jones serves a really nice space for a break. Service is what it need to be without being overbearing, or tending towards snobbery, and obtrusiveness. Efficient and on the money, nothing is re-invented here its decent interpretations of classic dishes done blimming well. Ginger is the pick of the bunch on the street and is test amount to the direction in which this area is heading. The Outer suburban offering here holds down and definitely holds it’s own against all the trendy über cool inner suburbs of Melbourne with similar styled eateries and offerings. Its a nice little area here, so keep in mind if you’re coming back to Melbourne from a drive out somewhere and find your self in this part of town. Great focus on the food; The onion tart for instance is a healthy serving and the burger has clean, fresh tastes, and is what a burger should be; great ingredients done well, and clearly reminiscent of home style cooking. Music floats in the background; it’s pleasantly audible(where it needs to be) and some good tunes are on offer. Oh and they also have a super cool surprise fun filled happy hour on Friday afternoons around the mark of 4−5pm.Just what exactly? Well you’ll just have to find out. It’s a surprise. Hats off to the team here, well done guys!
