The Great British Chippy has truly amazing food, but only occasionally — it is so inconsistent, and the staff occasionally incompetent, it ruins the experience. Also, the price is quite steep, which would be fine of the quality was consistent, but alas… Their chips, whilst handmade and fresh, are often batch-friend and come out soggy and clumped. Their fish, pies, sausages, and most other friend good are also batch-fried, which again leads to soggy, depressed food. Go on when it’s really quiet [rare] and your food will be 10⁄10 as it is all made fresh. If you go in when it’s busy, it’ll all be batch-made, and sit there waiting to be ordered.

I’m not British, but I’m of British ancestry, and quite the fan of British culture. Naturally, when I heard there was a UK-style fish and chip shop in Currambine, I was keen to come and try the food, and one thing in particular — the HAGGIS! Needless to say, when I received my haggis, black pudding(which I got as a backup, in case I didn’t like the haggis) and chips, I was very satisfied. Everything was cooked to perfection, I’m a haggis fan now, black pudding tasted great, good amount of vinegar on the freshly cut chips, definitely worth the 15 – 20 minute drive! So come on down for some fish(or something else) and chips, cooked like they do in the motherland! I’m definitely coming back, want to try the fried Mars Bar and the f@ggots next time(yes, that’s the name of the dish). Will update the review when I do.

Great British Chippy Absolutely Fantastic, at long last a proper British Fish n Chip shop. Chips as they should be soft, fluffy, and NOT frozen chips like all other chippies in Oz the fish is the best ever tasted. The only downside is the price — Would certainly not pay $ 16.50 back in the U.K. for fish n chips. Yes with the current exchange rate it makes the 8.90p but we are in Oz. Love it will be back for more

The nostalgia hits as soon as you walk in the door. A giant stainless steel frying range sits proudly as the centrepiece of the take away. For Aussies they will wonder what all the fuss is about — for the Brits they’ll feel like were suddenly transported to back to their village chippy! The range is the only one of its kind in WA. The deep fried fish is encased in a golden brown batter; it seems much crunchier than what we’d usually have in Perth too. The chips are freshly peeled and cut every day. That way the chips are tasty and fluffy — not powdery and stiff like the frozen imposters. We had cod the day we went for tea. We took our wrapped up bundle down to a park by the ocean. As soon as I opened the package and was greeted by the familiar look of pommie chips(all odd sizes and ever so slightly soggy looking) I knew they were the real deal. We ate out of the paper, using our wooden forks to dip the chips into the mushy peas and curry sauce — bliss. For the thousands of ex-pats that live all over Perth and in particular the Northern Coastal Suburbs near Joondalup — the Great British Chippy will be a little slice of home. The nostalgia; wooden forks, dandelion and burdock, mushy peas… Whether it’s a trip down memory lane, or a brand new experience you’re after — trying the Great British Chippy is a must.
