Whenever I pass by Guzman y Gomez, there’s always people there ordering food and eating, a sign of how popular this Mexican restaurant/take-away is. Despite being a chain, the standards are quite high, and it squarely hits the mark. Standard size burritos are similar in price to a gourmet burger, at just over $ 10, extra is you want guacamole. There’s also a mini burrito for kids or those with a smaller appetite, such as myself, for only $ 7.50. Food is made to order, but never takes more than 5 – 10 minutes to arrive. Usually we have takeaway, but there’s also plenty of seating, both inside and outside under shelter. DOGTIP: This is one of the favourite places for my dog to walk past in Crows Nest, he’s always trying to eat something off the ground! Naturally, the outside section is dog friendly and great to sit in rain, hail or shine.

Crows Nest has several Mexican restaurants but none of them really hit the mark. But this place is so fresh and easy I can’t resist it. I love the burritos when I add a bit more Chilli and jalapeños. Yum!

As a Californian who grew up about an hour and half north of the Mexican border, it’s been incredibly difficult to find decent Mexican food here in Australia. Actually, that was one of the most distinctive check marks under the«con» column when deciding to move here. However, Guzman y Gomez has been a life saver. Although it isn’t 100% authentic and the soft taco shells often fall apart, none of that really matters when you have a delicious spicy chicken guerrero burrito in your hands. The ingredients are fresh and the best part: they sell Jarritos to wash it down with!(P.S. listening to Aussies try to pronounce that is priceless!) Also, their guacamole is surprisingly REALLY good. I’ve only ever ordered take away from here, but the service has always been pleasant and efficient. And there is rarely ever a long wait. 10 to 15 minutes, max. The only thing keeping me from giving this place 5 stars is that horchata isn’t on the menu. That… and parking is scarce. All this has made me hungry.

I’ve been to Mexico so I basically know everything about Mexican food. Also I’m from New York so my knowledge of Mexican food goes even(muy) deeper. This is passable food for people who are hungry and require sustenance. Its resemblance to Mexican food however, is superficial.

The guac tasted like margarine and the food is probably double the price it ought be. I had to buy a Krispy Kreme and a slushy from 7 – 11 to ward off the impending nausea.

I give the stars for the good that the business is doing within the lives of the community they impact, however for Mexican food I was pretty disappointed. Call me a spoiled American if you will, but I say $ 21 for a burrito and 3 tacos is just shameful. Plus, in addition to being super expensive for street food, the quality was sub par. The ingredients were all fine but I have serious issues when your taco breaks from the bottom. Way too much liquid. I really have to disagree — GyG is nothing like Chipotle. Cool vibe and art, but I think and hope there is better Mexican in town

Yeah, I know it’s a chain but God bless those loveable Mexican scoundrels and their late opening hours. If I’m on the wrong side of sober and want a burrito smothered in three different kinds of Tabasco and and a cubic ass-ton of habanero hot sauce I only need to trot down to Crows Nest afore something like 11pm to get a foil-wrapped food baby handed to me in swaddling cloth(napkins, really) with all the reverence and care of a Nazarene handing over a Mexican baby Jesus.

Above average food, the staff are nice enough but often miss an item or two from our phone orders. But generally a great experience.

Having just moved back from living in LA for the last 3 years I was pleasantly surprised to find a tasty Mexican restaurant like Guzman y Gomez. It reminds me a lot of Chipotle in LA but much BETTER! Guzman y Gomez is the perfect place for a quick, easy, and tasty bite to eat!

I feel like I give too many 4 and 5 star reviews lately, but I have been eating exceptionally well. Unfortunately Guzman Y Gomez only made it to good, not great or exceptional And when it came to a bit of quality bonding time with my Mum, and her choice of a Vietnamese hole in the wall in Crows Nest for was closed for Chinese New year. Having been given the royal treatment at this very store for a press event, I was eager to see if the«plebs» get the same service. We ordered 3 tacos, 3 quesadillas and a chicken salad. We would have ordered a regular salad, but they dont have one. Perhaps Guzman’s biggest ommission. I mean come on, its deliciously saucy greasy-ish food. Sure its made with awesome ingredients and makes Taco Bell look like some kind of chemical factory in comparison, but I do like a salad on the side. Having to pay the full $ 10.50 for a takeaway salad without the chicken seems a bit wrong. To be honest, if I wasn’t with my mum it wouldn’t be too much of a problem. But she is pretty old school, and assumes she has to talk… real… slow… like… to anyone with an accent that says excuse me. Its not her fault, she doesn’t know any other way but if only they had offered a salad without meat, we would have been ordered and sat down in a second. Instead it was a painfully long conversation about the menu options, the amount of tequila in the margarita.(Was there really«only a little» or was it «a lot») and the other menu options. Really, who cares. in the end I took over and ordered it all and resolved to not get embarrassed next time. The food came and pretty much everything was a taste sensation(we managed to get every filling except for one). The interplay with the awesome selection of Tabasco and guac everythign else was absolutely delicious. The salad made it amazing, freshening up the inherent oiliness of the tacos and quesadilla. The only downside was the barramundi quesadilla. It was pretty shit. It was dry, somewhat tasteless, and was only saved by a liberal amount of chipotle Tabasco, a specialty of Guzman. And lets be honest, a liberal amount of chipotle Tabasco would make eating a rotten belt seem absolutely delicious. So apart from one little stumble, it was a delicious night out sitting on stools, drinking frozen margarita, and chatting away. And for under $ 50 for the both of us, including the drink, its a pretty cheap way to have some sweet mexican that makes Old El Paso seem like a crime.

I was stoked when I first found out that there was a Guzman y Gomez opening in Crows Nest, mostly because my memories of the original branch in Newtown are just that good. Back then soft shell tacos were a novelty(a completely different experience to the hard Old El Paso tacos we were all fed as Mexican growing up) and they had the most amazing prawn filling. The prawns were in a cumin spice rub and came with a squeeze of lime. This filling is no longer on the menu and my disappointment at this is everlasting. The Crows Nest branch of the tacqueria chain has a really nice atmosphere with a wide open and airy shop front, and an outdoor seating area with brightly coloured flags. The burritos are jam-packed with yummy goodness and the veggie option is actually quite substantial, consisting of sautéed mushrooms, onions. They are also licensed, so you can enjoy a nice cold corona to help wash down the burrito-y goodness. However as per usual with me it comes down to the simple things, which in this case is the fact that there is an array of condiments to accompany your meal, including three types of Tabasco sauce… in large pump containers. There is your normal run of the mill original Tabasco, then there is the extra hot Habanero Tabasco, but for me it all comes down to the crème de la crème of Tabasco sauces; Chipotle Tabasco. It basically tastes like someone has added smokey bbq sauce to Tabasco… And it is GOOD!

Finding a decent quality mexican restaurant in Sydney is tough. Guzman y Gomez do a fairly decent job of «fast-food» mexican but I have to warn everyone that the food is overpriced. I’ve travelled in the USA and California and I can assure you that for the price of a single meal here at Guzman’s could feed an entire family in California. Still, it’s a tasty meal if you in the mood and feel like coughing up $ 15 – 20 for a Burrito, chips/guac and a drink.

Given the choice for where I wanted to hold my farewell lunch for my last day working in Crows Nest, I chose to sit in the park in a big circle and bask in the good vibes of Guzman y Gomez’ delicious Mexican cuisine. When it comes to food, I’m a pretty simple kind of guy. I don’t care for frills, just some quality time with my friends complex carbs, protein, and Tabasco. Eating a foil-wrapped burrito while sitting in a grassy patch is probably as close as I get to contentment. Working for a website in that past life, I interviewed Steven, the CEO of Guzman y Gomez. One of the things I remember most of that interview were his remarks as to the new and improved skirt steak that was being introduced to the beef burritos. At the time, I made mention of it but the detail was minor amongst other, bigger discussion points. A few weeks later, I had forgotten about these remarks and was hoeing into a burrito when I realised that it was definitely a lot more tender than the last one I had eaten. I then remembered the new skirt steak. These little details weren’t advertised anywhere but that’s the kind of place Guzman is: there’s always something new or something improving behind the scenes. Extending the vibe of the restaurant are special events such as Cinco de Mayo, which finds May 5 recast as a $ 5 burrito day. I want you to just turn that over in your heads and mark it down on your calender. Make plans to skip your other meals, order two and take a long lunch and enjoy the mariachi bands that celebrate this special occasion

I’ve been to Mexico and I’ve got to say most of the Mexican food I’ve tasted in countries outside Mexico have not tasted that authentic but Guzman y Gomez is pretty up there. Their burritos are bulky and oh so tasty. I remember the street Quesadillas fondly from my travels but the cheese was always pretty bland. Guzman’s are made with cheddar so are quite tasty. As corn is the main staple in Mexican food a lot of their dishes are gluten free — nachos, the salads, tortillas. I like that they promote the nutritional value of their ingredients. I didn’t know that guacamole boost metabolism and lowers blood pressure or that the black beans are high in protein and low in fat. I just hope that’s the reality and they don’t mean minus the seasoning and sauce they are marinated in. Kid friendly they do a ‘Little Guy’ Burrito($ 5) and Cheese Quesadillas(2 for $ 5) which make it a cost effective place to take the kids for lunch. High chairs are available. This restaurant always has a buzzy feel to it as the kitchen is open and there are colourful Mexican festive flags in the outdoor eating area. Fully licensed they have frozen margaritas and imported Mexican beers. Open late my sister and her mates often find their way here after a night out.
