The Mayor is a great local bar and restaurant. I love the the main focus point is the bar at the center, with tables around the side. I love that you can go there by yourself and they say«what are you having?» Rather than«just one tonight?». I love that it seems like people can go there on their own quite often and the staff try to get to know them. I love that the owner checks in on you. I love that the staff pay attention to all the movies playing next door(Orpheum) and are able to provide their 2cents on what they have heard about each movie. Wine, cocktails and beer. Starter, mains and desserts… The usual. I recommend the firecracker prawns, the cheese plate and the charcuterie. The gnocchi was good, although light on the gnocchi. The Rueben was pretty good as well.

This place is great for two reasons: Great food and great staff. The dinner I had the other night could not have been more pleasant and yummy. Thanks Mayor Bar staff. Live music on selective nights.

Visited The Mayor for the first time mid January for a fun ladies’ wine and dine outing. We made a booking the day before and were seated as soon as we arrived, even with only three of our party present. Although limited, the menu was fresh and inventive. I ordered the spiced pumpkin salad with lamb and it was absolutely delicious! Same with the wine list: not extensive, but has some really lovely options. I also noticed some nice Scotch I may have to try next time! Overall, the service and food were excellent and we had a great experience. Will definitely be back!

Started out great. Friendly staff, nice wine list. Ordered risotto which was significantly undercooked(the rice was still raw). Was told by the staff«that’s how we cook our risotto». Love staff who haven’t tasted the food telling you you’re wrong. Wasn’t handled well.

Not content to serve up a side order of Angry Birds with Sunday breakfast(sounds dangerously like I’m dolloping judgement on to the uPad/iEat parents doesn’t it) — we controversially opt to engage with our child and today we packed up our travel Bingo and headed to The Courtyard @ The Mayor near The Orpheum in Cremorne. We were seated in the newly built courtyard and poured cucumber infused water whilst our order was taken. Before we’d even divvyed out the boards breakfast was upon us: Eggs Benedict served on a griddle for the large human male which he liked because ‘the yolk continues to cook on the plate — that’s cool’ … The small human male and I grazed delicately on a fruit platter with a little jug of Yog. I swear something magical happens in a commercial kitchen that renders fruit more perfumed and succulent than my earthily hacked fruit salads at home! Just the ticket for a light brekky. The courtyard is a gorgeous airy addition to the solidly performing Mayor. I can imagine, when I tire of brekky Bingo; long, summery lunches next to the Jasmine drapped walls with ma girlies. Maybe they’d like the Bingo too?!

Why should Neutral Bay have all the fun? This relatively new, hip bar is in Cremorne, just a little east of the Hayden Orpheum cinema. It’s good to have more bars in this area to balance out the restaurants. It was packed when we stopped in for a quick one before a film on Saturday night. We were able to wedge into a spot standing at the bar, but a couple of stools opened up pretty quickly. We had only a couple of beers, but there was quite a lot of cocktail-shakin’ going on. It was very busy, very loud, and quite crowded. It looks like a success, and our bartender said there are plans to extend out back, with an outdoor drinking and dining area. It’s a good choice to have for the area, but seems like it might be a little too bustling, and a little too frequented by the fancy Mosman crowd, to be a regular favourite for me. But I’d happily try again for a longer session.

Conveniently located in Cremorne near another favourite haunt, The Orpheum, The Mayor offers a varied menu that caters for bar food and a sit down clientele, looking very nice but as yet untested. The bar is fantastic, feeling very New York and with a great range of cocktails — the Langley, a coffee martini, was stunning and the small chocolate truffle offered as a side was delicious. Highly recommended, and looking forward to trying the menu!

Great night out at a great addition to the drinking establishments of the lower north shore. I will go there again.

Great social destination, classy fitout, lots of space, dark woods and chesterfield lounges with a great big central bar that serves up 2 champagnes, 2 sparklings, 3 Rieslings, 3 Pinot Gris, 3 Sauvignon Blancs, 2 Chardonnays, 2 Verdhlo’s and the wine list does go on though its not extensive however has some great boutique vineyard choices. The cocktail list is a selection of 8 and as people order them around me I think they look fantastic especially the pink ‘Mayoress’ I settle for the Two Hands Bella’s Garden Shiraz. We choose to order a large meal over the bar food as I select the Lobster Cannelloni with Beetroot salsa? Strange combination on paper but will try it anyway. The crowd is 25+and very relaxed its 7:00pm and all seating is full, the central bar is being utiltised to its capacity and the staff seem very attententive and friendly. The food comes and I sink a fork sideways through the cannelloni, the lobster is very subtle and the pasta itself is cooked perfectly. I sigh and settle back in for at least a good couple of hours this place makes me want to stay. Verdict: Great addition to all the opening for the bars of North.
