Great breakfast. Staff super friendly. Atmosphere buzzy. Weather crazy wild on the biggest storm to hit since last winter. Coffee ok. At least this café served breakfast after 11.15 unlike the restaurant next door.

Late review: This restaurant has beautiful ocean views from inside on the balcony. Came for dinner with my partner for be-lated valentine’s dinner in February. We’d arrived just in time to watch the sun setting over the ocean. Too romantic! We only had main meals here. I ordered a vegetarian ricotta potato gnocchi dish. It was very tasty-soft and a little chewy and went so well with the tomato sugo and pecorino cheese. The serving size is not the most generous, but was just enough(for a small stomached person). Portion sizes are good if having full course of entrée, main and dessert. My partner ordered the roast beef rump. He thoroughly enjoyed it as it was perfectly cooked –medium done. The cauliflower purée had a beautiful flavour to it which was accentuated by the sauce. Again serving size was pretty small. Overall in our experience, Blue Duck is a great place for special occasions — beautiful ocean backdrop, above average food and good service. One of the topmost romantic spots for dinner in my opinion.

I met a friend here for brunch a few weeks ago. The view is special, and one of the reasons this place is so popular. I hadn’t been before, so didn’t realise that I could have booked a table on the deck outside. We started with 2 freshly squeezed juices of kale, apple, celery and ginger which were really refreshing and zingy. I ordered the field mushrooms with soft goats cheese, rocket and toast. The mushrooms were fresh but could have been improved with a dash of garlic, and they were larger than they appear in the photo. They’re a bit stingy with the butter though, giving only 1 pat of butter with the toast. My friend’s choice of the avocado, tomatoes and rocket with toast, was run-of-the-mill, with no dressing or anything of interest. Our coffees weren’t hot enough, and lacked the touch of a good barista. It was hard getting the attention of wait staff at times, though when 11.30 came, we were quickly hustled out to make way for the lunch time bookings. I’ve had better brunches in many places in Perth, but without the benefit of that wonderful view of the Indian Ocean. I guess that’s the focus of this place, so if you come for that and don’t expect miracles to be performed in the kitchen, you won’t be disappointed.

Firstly as we were seated I was left with a DIRTY high chair(food all over it) it hadn’t even been wiped down. The service here was shocking. I found myself looking around the entire time trying to hunt down our waits person. And they didn’t even bring water to the table when we were seated. The food was amazing and the view is fantastic but definitely lacking in the quality of the floor staff and their standards.

Great beachside restaurant. We’ve been here a few times for brunch and our visit this week was as good as always. My daughters had a pancake with honey & strawberries. The pancakes were nice thick pancakes(rather than the crêpe type version). The girls loved them. I had poached eggs on sourdough bread. The yolks were super tasty and the sourdough was the perfect bread to soak it all up with. My husband had the brekkie bagel which he wolfed down. The lady who took our order was lovely and«took» my daughters order to make her feel like a big girl. Little things go a long way and this place always seems to get the little things right.

After a 15 year hiatus, I am happy to report that my recent visit to the Blue Duck far surpassed my last. New décor and menu complements the gorgeous views for now what is officially an above average dining experience. Don’t get me wrong, this is a great place to take an out of town guest to soak up the Cottesloe atmosphere, but the food is still better a few blocks inland. Pros include the ability to book inside tables and relatively quick and friendly service. Breakfasts were generous and accurately described in the menu.(Both serves of poached eggs were only slightly overdone).Only a few real cons, though. our reserved table was a trestle table with a black tablecloth thrown over it… and a pile of butter packets was given with the cutlery… not what I expected considering the prices. I’d give it a three and a half if I could.

Popped in for a Sunday morning coffee and so glad we did. The weather was lovely and the coffee is good. I had a browse of the menu and from what i could see breakfast is defiantly a must do… Lunch /Dinner however looked a little expensive… maybe i might need a higher paying job so i don’t need to think twice about prices…

This is a beautiful restaurant with a view of the beach, relaxed atmosphere and spacious seating, perfect for family get togethers. I took my family out for breakfast one Saturday morning, we did book ahead and had a nice table in corner which was perfect. The breakfast menu is very impressive, a great variety of dishes. My dad loved the sweet potato The menu with prices is available online so there are no surprises. My Favourite menu item is the french toasted brioche! It is served with poached pears, berries and honey marscapone cheese! My dad loved the sweet potato feta and herb hash, something I have not found anywhere else in Perth. The prices of the dishes on the breakfast menu are pretty reasonable however the lunch menu prices are almost double! We only ever go for breakfast, I just cannot justify spending that much for lunch as good as it may be. Breakfast runs until 11.30am. Sometimes we stop past just for a coffee and this is welcomed, there is nice seating on the deck to enjoy the view.

Went here with a group and sadly it was raining that day so we couldn’t enjoy the balcony seating. Staff were friendly and attentive. The booking was originally for 6 but we came with 12. They happily accomdated — although it wasn’t too busy for a Monday brunch. We had some great coffee and awesome food. I had the french brioche with berries(I also added some bacon) and that was tasty! Took away a blue duck souvenir with us for $ 6. Recommend upping the price on the duck and donating the funds to charity!

The view from the restaurant is one I could easily enjoy day after day but having not been to the Blue Duck for a number of years I was surprised that such an iconic restaurant had allowed its interiors to out-date themselves so badly. I almost got the feeling I was in a upmarket kiosk rather than a restaurant. Although our service was friendly, despite advising our waitress of my allergies I noted my main contained onions(which I have an intolerance to). Unfortunately I didn’t notice this until toward the end of the meal by which point I had already eaten some :0 Suffice to say it was an unpleasant evening for me that night! I have a full review with details and photos of what we ordered if you head over to my blog Chompchomp.

The view is what brought us here. The squid was delicious. Good selection of beer. Great ambiance for a variety of occasions.

The Blue Duck calls itself a Perth institution. That is probably a fair call. It has been around since 1988, which in the Perth food scene is forever. Awesome location. You are right on the beach watching the crystal blue water roll in and out. Listen to the waves lapping at the shore. The outside tables are prime real estate and if you are lucky you can nab one for breakfast, or even better to watch a perfect WA sunset. I try to come here whenever I can. I often will hold business breakfast and lunch meetings here. Clients are spellbound by the views. It makes the business talk more palatable and relaxed. On the weekends this place is packed with families and can be a bit noisy, on the weekdays it is a much more quiet and relaxing affair. The food is decent café fare. The service friendly and quick. The coffee nice and strong. All around a great place for a breakfast or lunch. But lets be honest, the view is what most people come here for.

I often come here for lunch with a friend when we want to catch up on lots of goss. The terrace tables are spaced out far enough, and the sea breeze blowing so as not be overheard by your more family-types at other tables. The meals are always substantial but we can’t help but order an entrée to share before our mains since everything on the Blue Duck Café’s menu is good, and I’ve pretty much tried it all. Never had the breakfast here, though, and even at over $ 20 for a full breaky, reports are tempting me to rock up earlier than the usual lunch hour and try it.

The café is described on its website as casual cosmopolitan dining with innovative modern cuisine. Straight up that sounds expensive and it is(although they could charge more for the view). Their breakfasts are delicious with the Cott sea breeze on your face and sand still on your toes, it is a great treat. I can’t help but order eggs benedict everywhere I go fro breakfast but at $ 22 here I had to resist. There is an element of pretence here but they are situated in Cott and where in Cott doesn’t?

We find ourselves at the head of a line some six parties long. The Blue Duck, it seems, is a poplar breakfast spot. And for good reason, too, at least as far as the food is concerned. A so-called full breakfast of eggs, bacon, chipolata sausages and tomato is a hearty start to the day and the well-brewed coffee and well-made Bloody Marys serve as a suitable tag team cure for what ails you. The trappings of popularity let the place down. Attempting to juggle hundreds of customers is no mean feat and the staff are liable to drop a few. It’s all you can do to stop yourself from grabbing your waitress’s arm and making sure that she’s got all your drink orders before she speeds off with only one of them. And good luck trying to get their attention should you need, say, an extra set of cutlery. You’ll likely be waving your hand about for hours. I would almost suggest rocking up just before the breakfast rush ends, at half past eleven, in the interest of ensuring that you’ll be the centre of attention when people begin to clear out. But I’m still not sure that you’d get a seat.
