Once upon a time a rare high-end bakery on the Smith Street strip, The Upper Crust is nowadays well in its element, trading in fresh, crusty French-style rolls and loaves with prices that match the name. And it is difficult to walk past without ogling the large, golden shapes behind the glass — low-carb diets be damned, this bread tastes every bit as good as it looks. The shop also doubles as a café, with a few tables out on the footpath — not the best set up as far as cafés around here go, although it is in a relatively quiet patch of Smith St. If it’s buying up on bread that you want to do, get there earlier in the day as many of the baskets can be left empty once their contents are sold.

I appreciate a really good sandwich. That may be an odd thing to say but I really do. I also appreciate a good sandwich with quality ingredients, freshly made and at a reasonable price. Because of that, I get my sandwiches from Upper Crust. Upper Crust is a family-owned bakery/café with only the best of the best produce. All the sandwiches are massive, chocked to the brim with meat and fresh salad(none of that thinly-sliced nonsense) and the best bit is; THEYAREALLUNDERSEVENBUCKS. I have paid up to $ 15 for a decent sandwich on my lunch hour which is just plain ridiculous, so Upper Crust are an absolute winner in my books.
