A small intimate place tucked away from busy Victoria parade, Tukka features an ambiance that is fantastic. They were more than happy to accommodate our vegan diets, and the food was delicious. Definitely our number one spot for Indian food now.

Excellent byow Indian food here. All the regular stuff, with super friendly and flexible staff, and lightly cooked but crazy-good tasting food. We had samosas, papadum, chutney, saag paneer, chicken korma, lamb vindaloo, naan/roti. Everything was great. I’d def come back here.

Quality of food and service were excellent. The food was brought out within 15 minutes. The restaurant itself is relatively small but not at all noisy or overcrowded. The dishes are very reasonably priced. Expect to find all of the traditional Indian dishes along with some welcome additions. My only criticism is that they slightly confused our order by serving saffron rice instead of coconut rice. We brought it to the waiters attention but he assured us it was coconut rice. He was wrong haha! Also, the wine and beer list could be improved.

Great place. Food is wonderful however can get very busy and the wait can be painful. If ordering take away double the quoted estimated time!

Sweetest little lady EVER. It’s worth going because she makes ya miss your mama. It’s a tiny, cozy place, that’s cuter than you’d expect. The butter chicken, is, like, buttah. So good. The wine is pretty damn cheap too. The roti and naan breads are not worth writing home about, however.

Many friends have told me about ‘the best Indian food in Melbourne’. Each time I follow their advice I’m usually disappointed. Coming from Leicester, the curry capital of England, it takes something special to satisfy my Indian craving. Yet since going to Indian Tukka, it has been very difficult to go to any other Indian restaurant. It is as good if not better than the curry houses in Leicester. Unlike most Indian restaurants in Melbourne, they have got some incredible starters. The tandoori mix grill and the Hariali Kebab(coriander and mint chicken) are to die for. As for the curries, I’d recommend them all. The butter chicken is great, as is the Goan Fish curry, as is the Prawn Caldine(coriander flavoured). I’m ticking them off one by one and have almost tried the entire menu. Brenda is an extremely friendly host and knows most her clientele by name. The food is to die for and worth the wait(which can be quite long when they are really busy). A word of advice: if you planning on drinking wine it probably pays to go to the bottle shop across the road because the markup on wine is high if ordering off the wine list. Also, if going on a Friday or Saturday night make sure you book because it often is fully booked.

My boyfriend is from Leicester, a city populated with lots of Indians. Whenever he’s craving Indian food, he always says: Leicester has some of the best Indian food. Melbourne has a lot of Indians, how come there aren’t any good Indian restaurants? There must be a good Indian restaurant somewhere in Melbourne. Luckily for us Indian Tukka is only down the street. Our friends, who have travelled through India, swear by this place. When people hype up a place, is it really going to be as good as they say? With Indian Tukka it was. My first experience with the food was great; however, my first experience with the service made me wait a few months before even thinking about returning. We ordered our entrees, then mains… quite simple. It took over an hour before our mains arrived after we finished our entrees. Rather than finding this an issue when we brought it up, the server told us that when you order entrees, the mains don’t get cooked until the entrees are finished. I wanted to tell her that this is the case with many restaurants, but these other restaurants clearly know how to time their entrees and mains better. Unless there is some«secret» of entrée and main timing that I don’t know about? When I finally got over the terrible service and learned the secret of having the entrée and main brought out together, I came to really enjoy the place. Clearly, I’ve given it 4 stars. However, I’m always slightly disgruntled that I can’t have my entrée first, then my main. My favourite is the Hariali Chicken with coriander and mint($ 13.50) and Lamb Rogan Josh($ 17.50) with garlic naan. The meats are so tender and the curry full of flavours. Plus, it received the authentic go from my boyfriend.
