Take away 8oz $ 3.50, banana bread $ 2.50. Closest thing I’ve seen to Dinkelbrot since I left Berlin. Free wifi and there’s a few power plugs around too! Coffee from Crave, was expecting better considering the location, but still a relatively tasty singleshot 60 degree flat white.

Gorgeous sourdough German bread and pastries including hazelnut, apple cinnamon and lemon twists can be found in this tiny German bakery and diamond custards and cinnamon whirls are also part of their sweet selection. I appreciate now how good German pastries and sweets are now having visiting Berlin with my friend who is originally from the university town of Stuggart. She had an overwhelming desire to always have tea, cakes and conversation. It was perturbing for myself as a visitor who was expecting to localise with beer steins in beer gardens. However after sampling of many German sweet offerings she introduced me to a champagne Berliner Pfannkuchen — little doughnuts of sinful gluttony and I was convinced. Hardly appetising if you look at the ingredients closely as they are sweet yeast dough fried in fat or oil, with a marmalade or jam filling and usually icing, powdered sugar on top. They are sometimes made with chocolate, champagne, custard, mocha, or advocaat filling, or with no filling at all. That trip was many years ago so when I found them by accident at Baeckerei in Clovelly I was so pleased. There is a cute little sun area inside where a small group of five can sit otherwise it is mostly takeaway and the coffee is very good.
