Marciano’s Cakes

I called long distance from the US and made a very difficult request of having a cake delivered to a family member in Boronia who really needed cheering up. Marciano’s does not deliver, but the gentleman who answered was very courteous and helpful in helping me find a way to make this happen. He ended up suggesting we get a cab to deliver it and arranged everything for me while I waited on the phone. Later that day the cake arrived. I later received a very emotional email thanking me for the gesture which would not have been possible without the kind help of the folks at Marciano’s. I was also told the cake was amazing.

This is undoubtedly the best Chilean bakery in Melbourne. We travel 12 km to get there and always overspend because everything is so good. Empanadas, Chilenitos, Maraquetas, Torta de Mil Hojas, Tortas de Pina, Pan Amasado, and many sorts of fresh creamy cakes. They do seafood empanadas at Easter. We have bought their multi-​layered creamy birthday cake over a number of years and for $ 35 to $ 40 you can get a cake big enough for 20 people. Marciano now has another store in Maidstone so those in the west and north can now also enjoy the best that Chile offers. You can also get the classic Chilean lemonades «Pap», «Bilz» and «Kem».

Marciano’s Cakes occupies a rather inconspicuous space along a short shopping roadside strip in one of Melbourne’s quiet South-​Eastern suburbs. Looking very much like an average neighbourhood bakery, the ordinary passerby is very likely to walk past it without a backward glance. However, do turn around, walk in and immerse yourself in a little gem of South America. It comes fully accessorised with bubbling crowds of local South American families flocking to purchase their daily breads, empanandas and dulce de leche sugar hits at incredibly affordable prices from friendly staff.

We love their different textures and the constant use of that exquisite condensed milk caramel of dulce de leche. At a most commendable price range, it is a most accessible sweet luxury for anyone and everyone. A true secret of suburban Melbourne.
