Ok restaurant– been going for a while. Food is average. The buffet has nice selection of cold and hot foods but is quite pricey. Was put off the last time I went to collect my take away. Was collecting food for 4 people and one of the owners asked if it was all for me? I suppose he was trying to make a joke but I didn’t really find it funny. Had my food delivered the time before that and it took 2 hours to arrive from when I ordered it I will be giving it a miss from now on; to be honest there are many indian restaurants in the area to choose from that are better. For example, Shikara in Clarkson has better food, better service and is slightly cheaper.

Not that excited about Masala Indian Restaurant. Seems a bit pricey and I didn’t enjoy the naan bread. Everyone who knows me knows that Garlic naan bread is one of my favorite things and this naan bread was super average. The indian itself wasn’t bad but it really does not compare to Saffron in Inglewood or The Spice Tree at Whitfords. The dumpling balls were doughy and weird and I probably would not bother again with this indian joint. I do think they have cute labels on their take away boxes though. That is pretty good!

I agree with Wayne, this restaurant is consistent in terms of food quality and service. I’m not usually a fan of buffets, but this one is decent. Take away is always good too!

This review is for the lunch buffet only. Ordering off the menu might produce different results. My mate and I took the long drive up to Clarkson because a university mate of mine recommended Masala as a great source of butter chicken — one of my favourites. When we arrived the buffet looked large and inviting so we decided to give it a try. There’s a huge selection of curries here and a bunch of interesting sides. Particularly excellent was the onion bhaji. The reason I can only award the place two stars is that the curries, while undoubtedly of good quality, just didn’t hit the right notes that I usually associate with Indian food. The spices didn’t have that taste of being delicately tempered throughout the dish, creating layers of complexity. You could, basically, taste the individual spices on their own and this, along with the texture of the dishes(none of that silky, creamy Indian texture) felt particularly tailored toward the general Australian palate rather than toward lovers of Indian food. My friend agreed with my pronouncement that, while no single food item that I put in my mouth was unpleasant here, but there was nothing I felt a particular desire to return to for a second mouthful, beyond the purposes of feeding myself. Masala has a pretty restaurant, a wide selection, quality ingredients, but it just doesn’t feel like the Indian food I have come to expect.

I’ve been a regular takeaway patron of Masala for a few years now and have never had a bad meal. The quality and quantity is good at an average price for similar food. Judging from the numbers of people in the restaurant I would suggest they have developed a good clientele who regularly return. Recommend giving it a try if you enjoy Indian food
