Chatswoodians are in need of serious café competition if people think this place is amazing. There’s no decent café in insight unless you want to have pad thai, sushi, or bulgogi for brunch… it doesn’t go down well with hangover

I absolutely love sitting outdoors while dining, and often the summer weather in Sydney is too beautiful not to. One of the best patios I’ve found in Chatswood is at Lid & Jar, a coffeehouse and restaurant serving delicious offerings for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The first time I went, breakfast serving was barely over — it ends at noon. If you love breakfast, though, you’re in luck, since several breakfast items also appear on the lunch menu, including the wonderful Crispy French Toast($ 18AUD), with natural Greek yoghurt, fresh strawberries and dried fruit compote sprinkled with candied nuts. The abundance of berries makes for an amazing flavor combination, while the toasted oats on top give some crunchy textural variety. The cream that accompanies the bread is a perfect complement, and while I didn’t order this, I happily stole multiple bites. I opted for the Fresh Corn Fritters(also $ 18), something unlike anything I’d ever had before. I adored the plentiful arugula, avocado and tomato topping that was like a mini-salad, and the fritters were fried to perfection and packed full of corn. I left off the bacon, and it was an ideal lunch portion, leaving me full and happy. I had to head back for brunch. The patio is so peaceful because it overlooks a grassy area near The Concourse theater. It’s also dog-friendly, and seeing cute pooches makes any meal better. I had a fresh cold-pressed green detox juice($ 9.30), made with apple, pear, spinach and coconut water. I instantly felt the healthy nutrients perking me up, and it had the perfect amount of sweetness. The fresh cold-pressed orange juice($ 9.30) was also spectacular, and both were great choices if you love fresh juice. I wanted a veggie benedict with no meat or eggs. My server suggested avocado toast with sides of roasted tomatoes and hollandaise sauce, which was a fantastic suggestion and shaved a few bucks off the regular benedict price of $ 17-$ 18. The hollandaise sauce was thick and creamy, just like I like it, and the tomatoes were juicy and perfectly cooked. Lid & Jar features two levels, including indoor restaurant seating up top and a second lower-level coffeehouse on the bottom, where you can order and take away from the sidewalk. Like many Sydney restaurants I’ve encountered, here a server takes your order, but you’ll pay at the counter. Everyone at Lid & Jar was extremely friendly, and the restaurant makes you feel instantly welcome. While I am striving to try new restaurants as often as possible, Lid & Jar is a place I can’t wait to return to for some dinner eats.

Met a friend for breakfast. We were all impressed with the friendly staff and wide variety of quality in the menu. Meals and drinks were all served in good time. The food was delicious, not too expensive and serves were all good size. Would go again no questions asked

Friendly service and great coffee. Long wait times for food though, which wasn’t fantastic anyway.

This is easily my favourite local café. Aside from the good value for money and variety of food and coffee, the quality is head and shoulders above most other cafes nearby. Yet to experience the menu outside of breakfast hours, but I recommend the wild mushrooms or big breakfast. Best tasting and stomach filling breakfast, perfect for a great start to your day or a recovery from the night before. The coffee speaks for itself and is on par with the best in Sydney. The atmosphere and setting are nice, cosy and welcoming. The staff are pleasant and smiling, although one in particular seems disinterested and at times inattentive, it’s very hard to knock this place back, and even harder not to tip. I can only see this place growing and becoming the standard for service and quality in Sydney cafes.

Everything about this place is amazing! From the interior to the service to the food. They have great fries to be honest! I’d love to visit again when in Chatswood!

Cafes that stay open after 3 are few and far between, even more so when you wander out of the golden triangle of the CBD, Bondi and Newtown. So I was thankful to find that Lid & Jar was still open and buzzing at 4pm on a Monday. It’s like the Kevin Rudd of cafes, «a PM for all Australians», with quiet nooks for business meetings and studying, tables outside next to the lawn for parents with fidgety kids and a bookshelf for anyone to while away the day. The extensive coffee menu with several single origin beans and brewing methods set the bar high but unfortunately the execution was underwhelming. On delivery of my parents’ flat whites(good flavour but not hot enough), I was told that my filter would be another 15 minutes — would I like an espresso instead? Sure, so then I sat back and waited… another 10 minutes! And with not a skerrick of crema. I’ll think about coming back for food given all the Unilocal-lovin on the corn fritters, but like KRudd second time around, I’ll have my hesitations.

In which café can you find both the 1st&3rd best baristas in NSW? Where can you find a delicious array of filter coffee? And more recently, where can you find a café serving Proud Mary coffee? Yeah… it should be obvious by now… Lid and Jar in Chatswood did not open that long ago and yet they have continued to evolve and develop. Now quite a popular Chatswood destination, especially given their late trading hours, this café is really staring to pick up their game and produce awesome coffee. I have no trouble recommending the filter coffee, but the espressos are also tasting great at the moment. Best bet as always is to let the baristas tell you what is tasting good. This place has great potential but is let down by poor service. I had the ricotta on toast with honey. A simple dish which is hard to get wrong, however they managed to forget the ricotta! The coffee was average/ok. However the saving grace for this place is its location. Located on the concourse– on a sunny day you can sit outside and enjoy people watching. A nice place to visit on a sunny day.
