When I was little i used to horse ride — but when a friend of mine got badly injured whilst training i got turned off… That said as an adult I thought I would give it ago and so I decided to take up horse riding lessons again… Here’s what I don’t remember from being a kid… 1 — Horses are really tall and you can feel quite high up(which can be scary) 2– When they gallop, its feels very fast and if you’re not feeling very confident it can be nerve wracking… 3 — They have mind of their own and they can and will react to things whether you like it or not… Although I liked being in stables, patting horses and feeding them I’ve come to realise as an adult I’m quite a scaredy cat — and I do find it embarrassing when 4 year olds trot past with no fear… I would definitely recommend this stable to learn at — great teachers and facilities — it just might not be as «fun» as when you were a kid…

If you’re addicted to horses, and love to visit, ride and take care of them, or if you just want to be a bystander and watch others ride, then you should definitely come along to Moore Park Stables. No matter whether you’re male or female, tall or short, young or old there will be a package and horse that will accommodate your wishes. Perfectly located central to the city, this is a country escape without the excessive driving. If you’re scared, this is a good place to start to take small steps until you’re comfortable. If you’re a mother, you can take your for children under five years of age, to be led on pony rides which are available for 1 hour slots. I wouldn’t recommend getting addicted to horse riding unless you have the financial capacity to treat yourself to a horse ride often, as addictions go, this is a costly one. Although if you just want a romantic ride around for an hour or so, very slowly around Centennial Park, you can do this without any experience, by yourself or with a group.

If you like horses and want to learn how to saddle one up and ride, or if you have a fear of them but want to over come that fear then Moore Park Stables is a place you must visit. There are many teaching schools within the stables which cater for all levels of your ability. If you’re a complete novice and want to start from scratch then this is the place to begin but if you’re an old pro and just need a refresher course then you’ll be able to find something for that here too. You can go for a one hour park ride(which is basically a very slow stroll) through Centennial Park or you can do a course to match your ability over numerous weeks. I did a four week course for beginners which lasted about 1.5−2hrs per session where I learnt everything from grooming, to saddling, to getting on one(and off) one and riding them. Well I wouldn’t exactly call it riding. I just sat on my horse while it move around and managed not to fall off. My next lessons will teach me how to ride them properly. Hopefully. I wasn’t short of advice from the young kids who would confidently ride their horse over and tell me what to do. So it’s for all ages too. Give it a go. You never know you might be a natural at it and I’m sure you’ll enjoy it.
