Centrally located next to the University of Melbourne, University of Melbourne Health offers affordable and quality service that caters to students and faculty. The doctors here are knowledgeable and professional. As an international student, one of my major concerns was ensuring I had some form of health insurance and quality healthcare. I don’t want to get into an accident and end up at some dodgy hospital or paying a ridiculous fee! University Health has many doctors and they can usually accommodate an appointment a day before. For those that want to see a doctor right away, there is usually an ‘open’ time around 2pm where people come in and wait to be seen. This is good if you need a medical certificate on that day but couldn’t get an appointment. My only gripe is that I do get the appointment, but the appointment never starts on time. What’s the point in scheduling a 1pm appointment when you don’t get seen until 1.30pm? I’ll never get that 30 minutes back. I’ve learned my lesson and have brought books with me. The best part is if you’re an international student who has OSHC, you don’t have to pay any fees to see a doctor.

During by time at the University of Melbourne as a student and as a tutor, I had to go and see a doctor on 4 or 5 occasions. On each occasion I went to the University of Melbourne Health Services clinic on Cardigan Street. If you take Grattan Street away from the university, you’ll then take a right and go up 200m and you’ll find it on your left hand side. They provide a drop in service where you can usually be seen the same day. You have to wait for this as it is done on a first come, first serve basis. It pays to come early to minimise your waiting time. I have seen Dr Penn on a number of times and he is really good. I’ve also seen other doctors and they have all offered impeccable service. Here is the info on how to pay taken from website. Payment info: — Students with a current Medicare card are bulk-billed — Students with OSHC Worldcare are direct billed to the insurance company — Students with other overseas insurance cover pay their fee on attendance and claim the rebate from their insurance provider.
