Tune Hotel

If Air Asia X (or Ryanair or Easyjet) was a hotel, this would be that hotel.
It’s a proper budget model: cheap rooms in a good location, and a billion extras you can tack on if you want them. Soap and a towel is one of those extras though, so unless you bring your own you’ll need to cough up some extra dough. Wi-​fi is also extra, so is early check-​in. If you plan on laughing during your stay, that’s also extra. I’d clarify I’m joking there but I might get slugged for that, too.
This is all very clear up-​front when you book though, so really there shouldn’t be any hidden surprises. The lounge downstairs is fun, the rooms are pretty small though (my twin was, at least) but hey, you get what you pay for. Good in a pinch.

Made a reservation for the Tune Hotel in Melbourne Australia via Travelocity today. I and my wife are wheelchair users. Added that to special notes input on the Travelocity reservation form as instructed. Purchased non-​refundable 3-​night stay starting 11÷1÷15. We have trip insurance and it was a highly rated hotel, so I didn’t think there would be a risk if the trip fell though. Called the hotel to confirm we need an accessible room. They told me that the room I booked was not accessible and they would not change it because it was booked through a 3^rd party (Travelocity).
I called Travelocity. They called the Tune Hotel. Travelocity said the hotel would put us on a list for the accessible room, but would not confirm it. First come first serve they said. Not acceptable to us, as we have no alternative. Travelocity asked to cancel the reservation without penalty, and the hotel refused.
This stunned the Travelocity customer service agent. We have a legitimate issue with Tune Hotel and wheelchair access. Our reservation is 9-​weeks away. Tune Hotel could have canceled our reservation and rebooked that room in an hour. Or they could have confirmed an accessible room for us today. I just don’t understand how a hotel could be so inhospitable.
Travelocity also was no help and left us to our own devices. I have to dispute the charge on my Visa ($ 371) as my only recourse. Well, and negative Unilocal reviews for both parties.
Take my advice, if you’re a person with a disability, contact the hotel directly for booking. We’ve now learned that lesson. Travel booking sites are for folks who expect only what’s offered.

The ultra modern lobby and café have the feel of an upscale modern hotel. The security is a key marketing aspect of this brand that strikes me as less important in a modern nation like Australia. The security is however quite good. The small modern room is perfect for solo travelers and the bathroom is nice. I think a tourist couple or a 2 – 3 bag high maintenance person might feel cramped.
There are some eccentricities that Western travelers may find annoying. The «add ons» include annoying fees for «towel rental» and the in room TV won’t turn on unless you pay for it. They also don’t come clean the room daily or replace soaps unless you pay an $ 8 add on, but I did notice that this property has a flyer in the elevators informing guests that it does a «light» clean every day you stay here (perhaps as a result of criticism) which is nice since the garbage can will be emptied and the bed made when you return. They do not replace towels, or soap. But, overall it is a nice modern hotel and I actually enjoyed it.
I like the concept but think a model created in less developed countries needs modifications in Australia. The price was not much cheaper than other hotels I found online in the same area. So, unless they are going to offer 20−30% discounts compared to nearby rivals, they need to include more «add ons» to line up with local expectations.

The quality of the room was really good. Everything was nice and clean, tv had foxtel and the SHOWER! don’t get me started it was awesome. The only thing that surprised me was how small the room was. But then again I only stayed 2 nights. Close to everything! Would definitely stay here again good value. Only downside had to pay $ 15 a night for parking.

Good for budget hotel. Room is clean and new. Close to tram station. Easy to get into the city. Just walk only 10 – 15 mins and 2 – 3 mins with a tram.

First impressions are amazing. I’ve stayed at their Westminster hotel in London so I was using that as my reference guide. This blows that out of the water.
The foyer and courtyard are modern and clean and so spacious. My room is huge compared to what I was expecting. I could really swing a cat in here. I was expecting a half shoe box, but I’ve got a queen size bed, desk, luggage storage plus the small ensuite.
This is a total no-​frills hotel. You pay for the room and that’s it. TV. WiFi, towels are all add-​ons. TV and Wifi you pay per 24hrs, the towels you pay for each.
The one big thing that would make this place 5 star instead of 4 would be more powerpoints and if there was a bar fridge. It would be nice to have somewhere to store drinks and food for your stay.

A true budget hotel masquerading as boutique. If you value privacy and sanity, book elsewhere. It’s fine for those that are OK with a backpacker vibe OR if you’ve always wanted to experience what it’s like to live in an American uni dormitory…
Pros: Pay for what you need, proximity to CBD, price, laundry
Cons: Pay for what you need ($ 11 per day for internet/​TV, fee for towel per day, etc.), no gym, awful service, noisy, no ironing board, ONE outlet in the whole room and it’s not in the bathroom. Picture yourself standing on a chair to do your hair in the mirror over the bed, girls…
I won’t be booking another stay. You can hear every noise in the hall and neighboring rooms, the service is miserable, and if your neighbors decide to smoke in their room, the smoke will fill yours because the vents are linked. Within an hour of checking in, my room was blasted with cigarette smoke — I called the front desk and was told someone would come check it out… never happened. It’s actually happening again as I write this, no joke.
For this price category, I haven’t seen better, but I’ll gladly pay more for the details that make up the difference.

You don’t expect much for $ 100 a night in the center of Melbourne but this place exceeds expectations! Fitted out with a modern funky vibe Tune is great if you just want somewhere cheap but not manky to stay. Walking distance to the cbd or trams at the door. The café downstairs is pretty good too.
Tune operates on a bundle model so you get a basic room but pay for extras eg tv, wifi, towels, late checkout. It’s important to note what you need beforehand as adding stuff later can be a hassle. But overall great place to stay with great friendly service. Would definitely recommend.
