I gave this place a very lonely star because of the food and it’s quality. The service was great but 4 $ for a plain cup of tea (just sugar) and 4 $ for a side of cold saffron rice(not fresh) was flabbergasting to me. Honestly, what shocked me the most was the 20.95 $ for a shrimp plate that only had 5 pieces of shrimp that were not fresh. The place was sparsely decorated and the floor near my corner table has been neglected, Besides that it was fairly clean.

Went here for lunch based on reviews on Unilocal and other sites. So glad we did. Service was friendly and efficient, I really appreciated this aspect. The food was extremely flavourful, not just spicy, but worth savouring. As one other reviewer said, it’s easy to find good Indian food, but not so easy to find great Indian food. I would agree that this is great Indian food.

Having tried all of the Indian places that deliver to Fitzroy, CCH is quite clearly the best. Their curries are great, and if you like spicy they can really crank it up for you. My personal favourite is the lamb vindaloo extra extra spicy. I’ve never actually been inside, so can’t speak to whether it’s worth a visit, but it’s great delivery that has always satisfied.

I like Carlton Curry House a lot. I really do! But I like nearby SR’s Namaste more so it makes me bias against CCH for no good reason. I’ve had take away and eaten in CCH several times, and I really can’t fault it. Service is fast in friendly, the food is super tasty and excellent value for money. But I just like Namaste more… Sorry!

Good Indian food is easy to find in Melbourne, but great Indian is rare. Carlton Curry House is one of the few great makers of Indian cuisine. Located further down Lygon Street toward the city, CCH is real exquisite dining institution. The setting is quite plain but the food makes up for it. If your lucky enough to run into Peggy while you are there /collecting take away then stay for a chat, she is really pleasant and loves to make a connection with her customers. A few months ago i ordered take-away and Peggy called to tell me her delivery person called in sick but was prepared to walk it over to my place which was not far! Of course i told her this wasn’t necessary and came and picked it up myself, she was so thankful that she gave me a free curry and desserts! The food is really unbeatable when it comes to Indian, give it a try… You wont regret it!
