There are a lot of cheap lame places around the area so hard to pick a good one. I have been a few times and words of wisdom! get a pasta or a main, avoid the pizza. The pasta is very good, the pizza is very average. The service has also being very good each time I have been. I actually left a tip because they were so good(which is rare for me because i am a cheap ass). Its a safe option if you are hungry and need someone good quick

This restaurant is one of the reasons I steer clear from most Lygon Street eateries. It’s average food and the dining experience is pretty bleak. The ingredients were not fresh and the wait time for four meals was over an hour long. The menu is fairly expensive considering the type of restaurant it is.

One of the two best on Lygon St, along with La Spaghetta. The latter doesn’t have pizza on the menu, so if you’re looking for the best place on Lygon overall that serves pizza, this is the place to go! Very accommodating staff, and very reasonable prices!

I don’t speak much Italian, but I do know ‘Il Gambero’ means ‘the prawn’ — and it’s not just because there’s a picture of a prawn on the window! As such, when I had a hankering for marinara and was wandering down Lygon unable to choose a restaurant, I saw ‘The Prawn’ and knew it was a sign… Well, the at Il Gambero the marinara certainly delivers value for money. There was an abundance of fresh seafood packed into the dish, and the tomato sauce was good, but a little heavy next to the fish. The atmosphere at Il Gambero was okay — a bit loud and touristy(but that’s Lygon Street for you) — and okay service. The venue itself is quite cool with an upstairs balcony(which is where I sat) that made me feel a little bit like I was on holidays rather than just around the corner from my house. I never went to their old premises so I can’t compare, but over all Il Gambero seemed pretty much on the money in terms of basic, bustling Italian.

Good, but not as good as it was before the fire. This place was recently closed from aforementioned fire for about a year, maybe two. I used to go a fair bit, because the food was really quite good, the servings were a generous size, and the price was more than reasonable. The service was excellent and it was really a four or five star recommendation sort of place. Now, I dunno, it’s just not what it was. Maybe it’ll take some time to get back into the rhythm that they had before the fire. I hope that it becomes what it once was, because the food isn’t quite as good as it was. It’s still alright, but something feels like it’s missing.

I have been going to this place since my parents accidentally followed a crowd of people in there after a Neil Diamond concert more than ten years ago. The atmosphere is fantastic, and the food is great. They have only recently re-opened in a new location after fire damaged their original spot. This place has everything you would expect from an Italian pizza place; great pizza, a huge variety of pasta sauces, gnocchi to die for(it’s seriously like eating little pillows of air), and a great selection of desserts. This place is one of the best on Lygon St, and one of the cheapest. With so many great restaurant on Lygon, this is one I continuously go back to which says a lot about their food and service.
