I know this is very random but I got my hair cut at Chainsaw Massacre back in 2005 when I was studying abroad in Melbourne and I still talk about my hair cut from there to this day! It was by far my favorite haircut and style! I wish I still lived in Melbourne because I would make this my go to spot for every cut and style. This place definitely left a great impression!

I have not personally had my haircut here but I have tagged along as my friend got his locks cut. I personally would never get my haircut by someone who named their hair salon ‘Chainsaw Massacre’, but the hairdressers weren’t nearly as crazy as I first assumed. While my friend was only getting a simple cut down, the man doing his hair was attentive, listened to exactly what he wanted and did it all in the nick of time. This is a quirky little salon and while I personally wouldn’t head here(I’m a bit funny about who touches my locks) they did a good job on my man friend.

With a name like Chainsaw Massacre, you’d think people would be deterred from getting their haircut there. When I arrived at Chainsaw Massacre, the owner Jay made me feel comfortable. I loved the space and décor — the brick walls were visible with a red and brown colour scheme used throughout. Jay wanted to know what I wanted. I just wanted something new so I gave him the green light on what he thinks would suit me. With my square jaw line and prominent cheekbones, hair stylists have a tendency to give me an A Line Bob. I was so over the A Line Bob, but that’s what Jay gave me. He chose a light brown with a bit of blonde. The finished look was different from my layered shoulder length hair dyed deep mahogany with black low lights. Chainsaw Massacre is about individuality and with the $ 230 I paid for my new look, I didn’t feel like an individual. Did I like my new look? Yes. Would I go back? No. I’m not sure what the average cost is for a haircut and permanent hair dye with foils in Melbourne, but $ 230 seems steep. If you just want a haircut and don’t want to go all out, it is more affordable. For students, he gives a discount for haircuts: $ 65 for women and $ 45 for men. For non-students, you’re looking at $ 80.
