Love love love this place!!! Great staff, great food and great music/atmosphere!!! Everything here is amazing, burritos, burrito bowl, quesadilla, nachos, even the churros!!! It’s the only place I’ve found that actually resembles South American food and tastes good… And it’s cheap!

Que sabrosa! Me gusta Guzman y Gomez y los burritos«Steak Chipotle.» Es mas o menos que«Chipotle» en los Estados Unidos, pero pienso que GYG es mejor. Tienen«Jarritos» y mmmmm, me gustan mucho! Pero no tienen ninguna«Fresa», que es mi favorita! Tienen cervesas de Mexico tambien(pero no bebo cervesa). No puede encontrar un mejor restaurante de comida rapida(para burritos) en Australia! It’s delicious! I love Guzman y Gomez and their Steak Chipotle burritos. They’re like Chipotle in the United States, but I think that GYG is better. They have Jarritos, and mmmm I love them so much! But they don’t have any Strawberry flavored, which is my favorite. They also have Mexican beers(but I don’t drink). You can’t find a better fast food restaurant(for burritos) in Australia.

GyG is cheap and cheerful. Good fresh food and is always good to see some latin faces in Brisbane… Most of their staff is not mexican… is actually colombian, they didnt took over the restaurants but also took over the music. I love the music. It makes me feel at home.

Huge nachos tonight. Vegetarian, lots of beans, guacamole. Hola! said the sweet little mexican behind the counter. i love that. There’s something about authenticity that blesses my soul. A lot of effort was put into the interior of this place. As for the meal, I loved at first and loathed at my last bite. I was full at the end but not happy. I want to rate it higher, but there are so many other good options around Carindale. Venture out amigos!

I’m happy there’s an option in Brisbane that closely resembles USA’s Chipolte, meaning healthy mex. I’ve been griping about how«Mexican» here doesn’t even come close to my usual meals in Southern California(which borders Mexico… eh) So while my husband and I were at the Carindale Westfield, we decided to stop in. I was taken to heaven, remembering Chipotle. I went for their Burrito Bowl, which is basically a salad version of a burrito, or a burrito without the wrap. Husband got the nachos. They offer several filling options(beef, pork, chicken, fish, and vegetarian). I was delighted by their use of black beans(which are, by the way really difficult to find in the grocery stores!!!), and fresh pico de gallo(salsa), and guacamole. However, after two visits, I found that there is an inconsistency with their rice. Overcooked and mushy — not pleasant on the palate, so I couldn’t finish my second meal there. But I would come back whenever I have a craving for fresh Mexican. Note: they say everything except their tortillas are GF.

Ah, Guzman y Gomez, where have you been all my life. I’ve known that this chain has been around for a while in Sydney, and it was only a matter of time before it made its way up to Brisbane. The first store location in Queensland was in the Emporium complex at Fortitude Valley, but this was a bit too far too travel for me to get my Mexican fix. Thankfully as they have expanded they have moved out into the suburbs and plonked a new store down in the brilliant new expansion of the Carindale shopping centre. While GyG may be a chain store, the quality of food presented is quite high and towers over the generally low-quality food that has been available in Brisbane in the past(Montezuma’s anyone? — ew). Mexican food is definitely the new black in terms of ‘fast’ food and GyG is the best that you will find. All the classics are available — Tacos(hard and soft), burritos(in wraps or in a bowl for a gluten free option), Quesadillas and of course Nachos. There is a range of different meats to try of varying heat intensities, including barramundi which is great for a change every now and then. Of course, I tend to stick with my favourites and the slow cooked shredded beef just can’t be missed. A little station is off to the right from where you place your order, and here you can help yourself to additional bits and pieces like jalapenos, red onion, coriander and three different types of Tabasco sauce… my word of advice if you like hot food is to try the lesser known varieties of Tabasco available here including a smokey chipotle blend and a hot habanero chilli version. GyG has a variety of drinks on offer that you generally won’t find in other locations, including frozen margarita and sangria(only for adults of course) and a range of Mexican soft drinks ‘Jarritos’ — try the Mexican cola flavour! A good selection of beer is available, and you can even order Corona by the ‘bucket’ where it will come served as a bucket of ice with 5 Coronas in it for $ 30 — seems like a good deal to me. Waiting times are very short, even when the store is full and the staff are always cheerful providing a happy environment in which to enjoy the great cheap food.

GyG Carindale is part of the fancy new extension that’s been added to Westfield Carindale. In my post-shopping, disoriented-by-new-section daze, I forgot that GyG was the same Tex-Mex chain as the one located at Emporium in Fortitude Valley. GyG Carindale was shiny and new and a burrito was calling me. Get in while they’re still shiny and new so you can feel like you’re the first person to ever sit at that table. I’d say«and use that cutlery» etc but everything there is plastic anyway. For a Thursday night late-night shopping takeaway experience it wasn’t too shabby. I’ll probably head back to the new section’s food court again, but I’ll probably try the wares of the other shiny new chains first before I give in to a burrito again(as tasty as it was).
