The Maling Room is the perfect mix between the old and new of the Melbourne café scene. It’s much larger than your current day café and a much older styling(it is in a 100 year old building which makes sense). The feel of the place however is very lively(sometimes bordering on too loud) and the service is top notch. The coffee served is brilliant. It is roasted on site, and you can buy many different bags of fresh coffee(single origins to filter) for roughly $ 11-$ 15. Great value! The menu is simple, but you know whatever you get is going to be good.

Maybe I have been suffering a bit of brunch fatigue of late but not much has really stood out for me. Everything in Melbourne is just a bit samey and call me grumpy, but why has everyone accepted the fact it can take up to an hour to even get a table at most places for the same old avo on sourdough? My weekend visit to The Maling Room was such a refreshing change that i walked away feeling happy, full and wondering when I can pop by again. We were greeted by friendly staff who were quick to bring out a pretty fabulous tasting latte while I looked through the menu. The variety was great and although i ended up going for the special of warm grain salad with lamb(amazing!), the brunch offerings looked delicious. The vibe was friendly, relaxed and efficient. Definitely worth a trip to the ‘burbs.

While in Melbourne we again visited the Maling Room Café. We chose with our coffee, the organic crumpets, organic food is a part of their new focus. The key to their popularity is the consistency of their coffee and the organic crumpets were excellent, the service was good. Noticed and photographed two copies of the awards from The Age Good Food Café Guide 2013. Best Boutique Roaster and Café, well worth the visit, will call again.

I had an amazing lunch here today. Situated on the corner of Canterbury Rd and Maling Road is the ever-so-lovely Maling Room. Apparently home to some of the best coffee in Melbourne, it most definitely lives up to expectations and my Macchiato and Flat White can vouch for that. The food is amazing. I ended up having Salmon, Avo, rocket and a whole bunch of stuff on scrambled eggs and toast. Not only did it act as a brunch for me, but I was still full up until dinner. The place looks great and has a really nice feel to it. I highly recommend this place.

Great coffee and atmosphere — which reflects well on the staff. I’m a fan and will return! Cheers.

This was my first(& will most probably be my last) visit to Maling Room. Yes, they roast their own beans & appear to be doing a good job at it, but I fear this is where their attention lies & the food & décor are slipping… I truly hope that I am wrong & that they were merely having an «off» day …

Perfect coffee, atmosphere and staff — you can’t want for anything else! The light and airy post office-come-café is a reliable haven for those times you just need a no-nonsense perfectly-crafted latte close enough to the city to be convenient, yet far enough away in leafy Canterbury to feel like you’ve just slipped away to your favourite café at your weekend home in some yet-to-be-discovered nook of heaven! Friendly, knowledgeable, personable staff, sunshine teeming from every crevice — you won’t be able to tear yourself away from the place until you have the coffee-jitters from too much Costa Rica cuatro mujeres or the staff slowly coax you out the door and turned the«closed» sign in the process. If you’re contemplating it, just go experience it already — you’re missing out!

This place is great! I was very excited to visit the place that my local coffee shop in Mt Martha, Via Battisti, gets there coffee rosted. I was delighted to find it was as I was expecting, beautifully smooth coffee at perfect temperature! The food is also great, specific to sweets and breakfast food, all really well presented and taste amazing! The staff were incredibly prompt and super friendly, the place is built inside an old post office which gives it the unique feel and look. Overall, highly recommended and a great place to sit and chat over good coffee and food.

It’s all about the coffee. Ignore anything else that you may be interested in trying and simply get a coffee and sit down. Savour the coffee, think about how smooth it is, how sweet it is without adding any sugar, smell the aroma. Now drink your coffee before it gets cold and people start staring at you strangely. The Maling Room boasts some of the best coffee in Melbourne. They sell unique and delicious blends and employ some excellent baristas. Their coffee is consistent and prepared with love, care and pride: just the right formula. Sure the café offers some breakfast options, and a few cakes but frankly these don’t measure up to the coffee, or to the competition down the road(you may as well grab a coffee and head further down for a feed). Just grab yourself a table. Order whatever way you like your coffee(you have to ask for extra hot), lattes, long macchiato, or anything that takes your fancy — maybe now is the time to try something different. You’re in good hands.
