Great menu selection — a range of really interesting things — many of which I didn’t get to try on this visit. But who could go past Mermaids Tresses? Or Beggars Chicken? Sounds amazing. On this visit we had a good Chicken San Choy Bau and a great Chicken with Crispy Noodles. The Lemon Chicken was also good. The beverage list is extensive. The service was really good and very friendly. Thank you for a lovely meal.

Brilliant, fantastic, super add anything nice as you feel you need, this place is great. Peking Duck, anything from that region, pick your food from a tank, great staff good price. Can’t say anything but go here to really try Asian food made by Asians the way to should be. Take away, atm, bookings and inside toilets. Fantastic.

Went to pine and bamboo in the last week and while the customer service was on par, the rest of it differed so substantially I felt the need to update my previous review. We ordered 2 course peking duck… the 2nd course was what I have always gotten. the noodles. For those experienced in the peking duck tradition, the duck is carved and you wrap your pancakes with cucumber, shallot and hoisin sauce. Then the duck is taken away and the meat made into the various 2nd or 3rd courses. Well to my surprise, the duck noodles(2nd course) came out prior to the duck so they had used the meat of someone else’s duck. When I questioned the waitress she said she would go ask and she never came back. We also asked to take the duck we ordered home so we could boil soup etc after all we had paid for the duck… when we got home, we noted not only was the duck raw inside, the meat was carved out and obviously used for someone else. While it pains me to share this review as I love peking duck I feel that a duck so raw could not have been that safe to eat even though the skin was crispy and with a heavy heart, I dont think I will be back for a while. Serving the 2nd course first also gives me the impression they have frozen duck meat ready to be added to the next courses which is peking duck blasphemy.

Fairly good chinese place, orders are correct and made in a reasonable time, can be fairly expensive though if having a large order. They do eat in and take away. Parking is a bit difficult at peak times, but I’ve usually gotten take away so I’ll just get someone else to pop in and I’ll wait. Portion sizes are your average chinese rectangular containers, and the meals themselves are quite tasty and usually not too oily/greasy, which is good!

A very average place that really doesn’t live up to it’s name and reputation. The food is just too blend and average for the price you pay. There are dozens of Chinese restaurants in Brisbane that ARE able to bring you the subtle flavours of the several Chinese cuisines they offer, for a lot better prices. The food isn’t bad, it’s blend. The staff isn’t unfriendly, but are a bit all over the place. In short, I would not recommend going here, you probably have a better Chinese kitchen in your area.

The old adage ‘Don’t judge a book by its cover is so true when speaking of the Pine & Bamboo. Usually when we’re looking for a meal out I’ll either opt for the ambience of a waterside place or make a beeline for the Valley, City or West End for the jumping, tried and true array of good food places. When it comes to Chinese food, though, look to Sunnybank or the Valley for a great selection of authentic establishments… except for the Pine & Bamboo. There it is, unremarkable and a little tired looking, out there on its own in the middle of Cannon Hill. Don’t be fooled; it’s consistently great and winner of a string of awards. We loved the duck, which was why we first went there, the shredded pork and the spare ribs; the dim sims and deep fried ice-cream won the kids over. Service was a little slow but overall we had a really satisfying experience.

It was a close race between Pine and Bamboo Restaurant and Yum Yum Peking Duck for best duck award in Brisbane, but in the end my vote went to the Pine and Bamboo. Their duck skin is perfectly crispy, the fat melts away but the best part is their pancakes. So soft and fresh and delicious. On our last visit, we did run into some problems with the staff though. They refused to give us two extra pieces of lettuce leaves for our san choi bow. We had a table of ten and only eight lettuce leaves. I mean, come on! We weren’t asking for extra duck filling, we just wanted two extra lettuce leaves. In the end, we paid $ 2 extra for the leaves. Asides from this minor setback, I will definitely be back once I digest all that fatty duck and I’ll bring along my own lettuce leaves from home to stick it to the man.
