The Well at Camberwell

Paid a visit to my old stomping ground today. I like the Well, its in a great location and I do like having a few shops centralised within the building.
I used to do all my grocery shopping and this place has everything I needed with Coles, the butcher and fruit shop all on the same level. Upstairs has a few shops but I’d much rather be on Burke road, parricularly if I’m looking for a gift or knick knacks for the house.
Parking is a bit of a pain (and the pain increases on weekends), however given the location you can always find a different area to park and just walk.

The only reason I come here is to go to Coles occasionally as I live locally.
I find the parking is a huge pain and avoid it during busy business hours. Nothing exciting here really.

Conveniently located on Burke Road and with some shops like JB, Genesis gym, Coles on the lower level, Jewellery, Dymocks, vodafone-​3 on the ground floor, it is only a short stroll to all the camberwell shopping — Safeway, Nandos, Wtichery (both him & her), Just Jeans, Esprit, Priceline, 2XU to name a few.
There’s not much about the Well really — looks a bit boring to me now to be honest but shoppers and/​or Genesis members will surely find the 1.5hrs-2hrs free parking on offer very appealing.

The Well is a shopping centre tucked behind the Camberwell Shopping Precinct on Burke Road. It is a multilevel complex filled with a range of banks, chain stores and other outlets, 33 stores in all.
It lacks personality and appears at odds with the surrounding shops. It is not large enough to be a really draw card in a suburb nestled between both Chadstone and Doncaster.
I imagine many locals would find it a useful place to do all the shopping in one hit, especially if it’s raining and they don’t want to wander up and down Burke Street.
The ground level is home to a fresh food a large Coles, butchers, bakeries, greengrocer, deli, liquor store and juice and sushi points. The first level houses a café, Dymocks and a range of retailers and services. The top level is home to Geneses Fitness and JB Hifi.
I drop by The Well if I’n in the area and need a particular store, however I would much rather browse the Burke Road shops with friends before a movie. I find the parking garage poky and really it’s just another local shopping centre suffering from a bit of an identity crisis.

The Well proudly proclaims the fact that it is the only shopping centre in Camberwell — something that a few locals resent.
It is a fairly small space as far as shopping centers go, but The Well does seem out of place along the Burke Road strip — especially as it towers above all the other stores and cafes.
This shopping center comprises a few smaller stores including some jewellery, dress and home décor shops. There are some cafes scattered through, along with a supermarket on the bottom floor. Up the top there is a J B Hi Fi store and there is also a Genesis Health Club that takes up residence here.
Shopping centres are great for distant and odd locations with little by way of street shopping. Places like Doncaster and Chadstone succeed because they are able to eliminate any small competitors in the area, and they provide locals with everything they could possibly need in the one place.
The Well isn’t needed in Camberwell. There are great shops and cafes all along Burke Road and while the shopping centre is convenient, there are better attractions lined up along the street.
