Went with a friend before his theatre performance just across the street. The place only had a few people in it at the time and we were promptly served. I ordered the Pollo Risotto and got a massive plate full, it was hot and steaming and delicious. My friend ordered the Speciale I think, again rated it quite high. I then ordered the Sticky Date Pudding, again a large serve was delivered and again it was very good. Staff were all prompt and friend and came around with cold water regularly. I shall recommend it to friends and keen on getting back onto Sydney Rd some time to go back.

It’s been a while since i craved italian food(Melbourne really does just have so many options), but one day a mate and i stumbled across Sammy’s(Seriously we walk down Sydney road every day and never noticed it). We sat inside and were greeted by staff, we ordered and i was pleased to see a mix of delicious italian on the menu. Everything from pizza’s to risotto’s to pastas, my taste buds prepared to be pleasured. I ordered pasta(ok i ordered a pizza and pasta but we shared it) and have to say the Veggie pizza and pasta that i ordered were quite good. They had some flavour but i really felt they lacked that little something special(I messed around with the salt, pepper and mozzarella in order to fix it). The venue was pretty quiet and have to say most of the times when i have ventured past Sammy’s, it seems to be quite empty… i won’t read too much into it though!

I meet C after work for dinner at Sammy’s. It is a casual type of restaurant with lots of room, lots of tables inside and a couple outside but the weather was still too cold to sit outside. The menu has all the usual pizzas along with gourmet pizzas, the usual pasta dishes, risotto, steaks, seafood, salads and deserts. I love my pasta and so I ordered a main of pasta dish of pollo and avocado. C was loves risotto and ordered the risotto vegetariano. Along with two glasses of Norfolk Rise Pinot Grigio, although the wine menu is not extensive it does cover all the bases. There are also beers and soft drinks available. The food wasn’t spectacular or fancy just good, basic Italian cooking with good ingredients. After all the risotto C. didn’t have room for desert, not even to share a tiramasu with me; my only disappointment that evening. The service was friendly and efficient — I assumed that the mustached man behind the bar must be the owner Sammy keeping an eye on everything. C and I agreed that we must return — it would be a great place to have dinner in the summer when we could enjoy a stroll along Sydney Road before and after dinner.
