What happens when a carvery gets fancy? The Cutting Board happens. They have a wide selection of meats to choose from to go onto your delicious bread, to make a great sandwich. The queues at this place suggest it’s great. Unfortunately I’ve only ever managed to arrive after they’ve sold out of most types of fillings, and what I had was okay, but I feel it could be so much better. I think I need to revisit and sample a bit more.

Okay, this place has some areas where you can sit down for a small meal(and the meals that they offer to tend to be a little on the small side) but it is probably more like one of those predominantly take-away cafes. Sure, they do offer you tea in a pot(though I must admit I had to ask the staff a couple of times for some sugar since there were none on the tables) and you can eat in, but after coming here for some breakfast I got the impression that that is not what the place is designed to be. Mind you, I tend to prefer to sit in the café with my drink, namely because I am going to end up sitting down with it anyway so I might as well do it in the café. In the end it isn’t that bad a place, but there are much better places for breakfast in Brisbane.

You might be thinking: why the heck do we need yet ANOTHER coffee shop around 275 George St? Well, let me tell you. Because that’s where I work and I need variety. Another good explanation could be that there is no such thing like too many coffee shops. Not for me! The Cutting Board has opened few months ago, and I’ve been visiting it from time to time. They have a good coffee(Vittoria), breakfast food and quite few various sandwiches(see, variety!) you can get for lunch. It’s not very big inside, but they have plenty of seating outside, so if you are an office worker like me, you can still escape eating in front of your computer and eat on the(questionably) fresh air. One of their sandwiches is called the Polish. It’s gotten my instant attention, so of course I had to give it a try — mind you it doesn’t have much in common with Polish food(well, maybe the sauerkraut.), as I haven’t seen many polish sandwiches with chorizo and red peppers, but it’s actually pretty tasty! It’s definitely a nice new addition to the area, especially if you’re running out of time and need a quick lunch fix!

I popped into the Cutting Board for a sandwich this week, and for a place that has opened only recently, it certainly has some fans. The salads look tasty but I opted for a fresh sandwich — The Watson. It was great, pretty large too… I had planned to save half for later but ended up eating the lot! Service was quick and efficient, despite being busy. Only comment(and this really is nitpicking of me) was that salt’n’pepper was not offered during sandwich prep. Definitely will go back — keen to try the pulled pork and other sandwiches.
