Small and comfortable, with spicy, tasty food. Bi Bim Bab from $ 9 – 12. We tried the uncooked beef in the hot stone bowl and the tuna sashimi, which was basically a rice bowl with salad and spicy sauce. Both were quite good. No option for adjusting the heat, but luckily it was spot on for my tastes. Clear you out, but not taking away from the flavor of the foods. If you aren’t all in on the spice, I would recommend asking for the spicy sauce on the side. The sake was okay. A little old. I believe it was around 12 as well. Oh, and lots of food for the price! Could easily split with a friend or take home leftovers for dinner. Yum yum. Solid for just under 20 bucks each. Definitely worthy of the regular lunch spot list.

The food was not too bad! We had the bibibap and yuk gaejang! Quite nice! But they can get really busy and they seem to be quite short handed. It quite hard to get their attention for little things like refilling the water and the side dishes. But overall it’s quite a cozy and nice place to dine in!

I went to this restaurant around 5 times in total, I tried plenty Korean restaurants in Brisbane city, this one is the best one by far. I prefer their soup than Bibimbap(rice, meat and raw egg in a hot stone bowl.) But the portion size for Bibimbap is so much larger than other dishes. One positive point of this restaurant you can refill the side dishes no matter how many times you want. I personally a fan of the sweet potato side dish. Overall, everything is average in this shop, it’s not the best Korean restaurants I ate by far but it won’t disappoint you. One times, my Korean friend went their with me, she said the same thing either.

Side dish was pasta salad and couple pieces onion. I ordered a tofu soup that was no any flavor but salty. The price not just $ it actually $$ Not worth to go sorry.

Madtong San is a great korean eatery. It’s really crowded especially on the weekends. But the food is fresh and yummy and there is a lot of dishes to choose from. Low prices, big servings and friendly staff. They are operating in other locations across Brisbane as well, which is very convenient.

This is a phenomenal little Korean restaurant in the CBD. It’s my go-to place for Korean in Brisbane, always has been. I’ve always gotten excellent, prompt service and the food has been uniformly excellent; the bulgogi is some of the best I’ve had. The restaurant is fairly small and fills up pretty quickly. They tend to favor a low-lighting scheme as well so be warned. They’ll also give you extra kimchi for free if you ask which will endear me to them forever.

Wasn’t impressed from my first meal here but I’m gonna give it another chance later on. So first off why does’t this place serve naengmyun. It was really hot on the day I came here and I was looking forward to my goto hot weather food. I ordered the sundubu jjigae and some beer(great cheap beer btw). The banchan sucked, the kimchi was awful the picked onion was too sweet and whats with the sweet mayonnaise pasta? Nothing says korean like sweet mayonnaise pasta right? So on to the main dish. The soup broth was okay. It was spicy and had a good depth to it but my main gripe about the dish is that they used frozen bits of seafood for the soup. Now being korean and have eaten korean food all my life I know when they have opened a bag of frozen seafood mix and put it in to the dish. So my first impressions wasn’t good but I think it’s worth another try.

Craving Korean food after a 2-week eatingfest in Korea, I came here with a fellow Korean buddy and was immediately overwhelmed by the many delicious choices on the menu. I had japchae and spicy pork(which I always forget the name of because it’s super long). We also ordered lemon soju, which tasted like boozy homemade lemonade. Our meals came with loads of side dishes, which is definitely a good sign. The restaurant also played all of my favourite K-pop songs. I read somewhere that it’s the best Korean restaurant in Brisbane and I think that’s about right!

Not too shabby. Took my family out for a birthday dinner. It was a nice evening. My parents are vegans so the choices are a bit limited, however they can just about adjust every menu item into a vegetarian or vegan meal by replace the meat with vegetables for example Unfortunately the didn’t have dessert by there was a frozen yoghurt place nearby. There were mainly Asian youngsters there at the time, which they all looked like they were probably students or just on holiday visas… who knows: P Overall, not too shabby :)

I’ve never had Korean until the day we went for lunch to Madtong San II. I loved it! Since then I brought few people with me to that place. If you don’t know where is it, you might find it slightly difficult to find. They don’t have a big sign, and it’s a wee bit hidden on the first floor of the building. Just look for the sign! It has quite a lot of tables, but of course it might get busy during lunch time. I like they have smaller tables, so if you don’t fancy company, you can find a tiny table for yourself only! They have a cool ‘calling a waiter system’ too! There is this magic bell/button on your table. If you need service, just push it, and a waiter/waitress comes. Magic! ;) On the menu there is a lot to choose from! I obviously don’t know much about Korean food, so I listened to my friends’ suggestions. But if you’re alone/nobody knows what to eat, the waiters I’m sure will be happy to help you! I love their bibimbap(rice with veggies, meat and raw egg. And you mix it when they serve it. YUM!) You can pay with cash or credit card — also they have no problems with splitting the bill if there is few people. Only once we had to wait quite long time for serving(about 20 mins, which is quite some time if you have 1 hour for lunch), but to be honest we arrived in the biggest rush. One of my new fav lunch places!

Two of my friends had never eaten Korean food before! I couldn’t believe and went on a search to try to find the best place I could take them. Since I JUST moved to Brisbane, I had to rely on my fellow Unilocalers. Thank you Unilocalers for being there for me. I was also reassured when I walked in and it was ONLY Korean people customers. They only brought out 3 tiny dishes of sweet potato, pasta, and kimchi. I am used to a more varied selection of at least 6 – 8 mini dishes to start the meal off. The kimchi was fantastic though! I will give them that. I don’t know if that’s how they do here in Australia or just at this particular restaurant. Our meals came out in an appropriate amount of time. I ordered the Dol Sot Bi Bim Bap and it was pretty tasty. Not the best I have ever had but filled the craving. We also had the No. 22 with chicken and rice and spicy seafood soup. The ladies are now fans of Korean food! :) The water they served us was really nice and ice cold. The service will come to you if you need them but they won’t really bother you. When you’re ready to go, you just come to the counter and pay there. After going to eat here, my roommate and I discussed Korean food. She is a big fan and said that this is one of the top two places so yeah! Thanks Unilocalers for making my first Korean experience in Australia a Unilocal worthy one.

This restaurant is a solid three stars seeing as how I’d go back for their bibimbap bowls, but I don’t dream about them at night. I do see a lot of Korean’s eating here whenever I walk by, so I assume it’s legit.

By far one of the best Korean restaurants in Brisbane not just value for money but the food and dining experience is great … Fast service which can make up for the wait for a table most times. I try and get there at least once a month

For authentic, affordable and delicious Korean food you won’t do much better than Madtongasan II — my pick(and may others’) of the trio of Madtongsan restaurants in Brisbane. While Korean barbecue has been popular in Australia for a while, restaurants offering other traditional favourites like ‘bibimbap’(rice, veges, meat and raw egg which cooks at your table in a heated stone bowl) and ‘sundubu’(a spicy soup with meat/seafood and egg) haven’t been around for that long. That is until places like Madtongsan started to pop up. Apart from the above mentioned you might want to try their traditional egg and rice flour pancakes, filled with either meat or veges. For those of smaller appetites this might be all you need for your dinner. They also have Korean beer on tap, and if you need a refill(Korean food can be quite spicy) all you need do is press the button at the edge of your table and someone will come running to take your order. Now that’s service!

Judging by the lengthy queues on weekends, I’m not the only one who has a whole lotta love for this korean eatery. This elizabeth st establishment is one of the three Madtongsan restaurants and is by far the most popular. The staff are polite and friendly and the menu is huge with close to 80 dishes. (making it a bit of a challenge for someone as indecisive as me!) The serving sizes are very generous and I have a litany of firm menu favourites that I keep going back to. My top picks include the jjam bong(seafood noodle soup) kimchi jeon(a spicy and most delicious pancake of Kimchi and pork) and the hearty jae yuk bok eum(stir-fried pork belly and vegetables) Most meals are also served with sides of kimchi(a kind of fermented cabbage) and flavoursome glazed sweet potato(both of which add a pleasantly sharp bite to the dishes) Be sure to wash down the delicious-ness with some refreshing korean beer and beverages. With a vibrant interior and reasonable prices this place provides fun times for groups or serves as a very memorable date. Madtongsan is well worth queuing up for.

This is by far the most popular of the three Madtongsan restaurants. Lunch times are usually pretty busy but Friday and Saturday nights are chaotic. Depending on how hungry and drunk I am, I may or may not join the queue. There are a row of chairs pushed up against the wall for waiting diners but once these seats are taken, the rest of the queue hovers hopefully over packed tables. It can be a little disconcerting if you’re trying to relax with friends over a meal. Warning: If Korean BBQ is what you are craving, you may want to try elsewhere. Madtongsan II aren’t popular for Korean BBQ; I don’t even remember if they have a BBQ option on the menu. What they do extremely well are the Bi Bim Baps, potato noodles, spicy soups and kim chi pancakes. As far as service goes, the staff tries their best. I can see they are run off their feet so I never complain about having to ask for water twice or if they forget to refill my kim chi accompaniments. Prices are reasonable too and they are one of the few Asian restaurants that let you split the bill and have Eftpos facilities.

Madtongsan II is the bigger member of the Madtongsan family of Korean eateries. Madtongsan(the original) is a little shop in the Elizabeth Street arcade,. You can find Madtongsan II upstairs, just a few doors down from the arcade, above where Skinny’s used to be. If you come on a Friday night after 6:30pm, there’s a good chance you’ll be waiting in a queue to be seated. This place is heaving on a Friday night. Ordering is done by a call button on the table, which I think is a brilliant system. The service is prompt and you don’t get harassed by wait staff while you’re looking over the extensive menu. There are a variety of complimentary dishes or nibbles for your table, including spicy Kim Chi, a sweet, glazed sweet potato medley and a cold tuna pasta salad. The sweet potato is so delicious. Don’t be shy to press the button and ask for free refills. They have Hite beer(Korean beer) on tap too. Be warned, Korean food can be really spicy so believe the menu if it says spicy. They also have plenty of dishes that are not spicy, so there is something for everyone. I love the Bi Bim Bap, which is a hot stone bowl of rice and egg and vegetables. The egg and meat are raw when it comes out, but the bowl is heated so it cooks the egg and meat while you mix it all around. Just be careful not to order the cold bowl version, as my husband did once. Chicken salad is another highlight for me. It’s nice to get one and split it between a couple of people for entrée.
