A good place to drink and listen to some Irish musicians. Don’t expect an amazing meal since its a friggin bar. They pour drinks and you munch on things. You come here to drink around friends and be loud. An maybe watch a Rugby match but other than that, its a pretty nice dive to hang out. PS Still bummed that you have to get peanuts out of a vending machine though.

Liked this place much better than Mick O’Malley’s. Smaller more authentic Irish Pub. Good service and the chicken wings were excellent. Good pour of Guinness too.

Noisy and smokey downstairs and very crowded but upstairs was quieter and the veranda was a great way to escape and hear your conversation. Definitely for a younger crowd though I do like the leather lounges upstairs and the art work in the back room on the wall. Great place if you like the noisy party atmosphere but I suggest there are a lot of other places close by worth a look and pass this one by.

Don’t bother with this place unless you are a die hard Bogan who likes over priced drinks and bad live music. The place is an absolute dive and the only reason I have ever gone there is because friends have dragged me there.

Ahhh Irish Murphy’s. Is there a better place to go and get drunk, rowdy, sing along to ‘classic’ rock songs, either with the band or the DJ, and maybe get a quick pash on the dance floor? Well like any good ‘bad’ bar, Irish Murphy’s has it all! Including some Irish people! But underneath the typical pub layers Irish Murphy’s isn’t the worst place in town. The verandahs upstairs offer a nice break from the packed dancefloors and there are a few nooks and crannies in which to hide away for a bit when the raucousness gets too much. For a lively night out and to embrace the inner pub bogan, definitely head on over to Irish Murphy’s for some fun times!

Irish Murphy’s is not the only Irish pub in the city, but it is the only one I know of that has a verandah that will offer nice views of the city. This spacious pubs has many rooms and compartment to cater whatever your mood may be at any particular time. When you enter the pub, it looks like a typical Irish pub, wooden tables coated with a fine layer of beer and such. Lovely. Places like these usually lure in a rowdy crowd that can get a little unpleasant. What I have found though, is that this place is a great place to go on a late afternoon to chill out on the verandah. It is usually pretty quiet and the views of the Brisbane river make a great escape to the hectic city atmosphere. There are also some small rooms located up stairs which is also makes the place more pleasant. I have not tried any of the meals but have noticed that they have a $ 15 lunch and dinner menu board, I would like to try it one day as I think I could probably enjoy one of these meals in the up stairs rooms I just mentioned. Irish Murphy’s may look a little messy and get a bit rowdy but like many places, you have to know when to go there, and find the best spots to chill out at.

I have a fond spot for Irish Murphy’s. I don’t really know why. I can give you a list of things that make this place less than perfect but I still like it and find myself there all too often. In fact, here is the good, the bad and the ugly: The Good — live music most nights of the week(and they are normally pretty good pub bands) — dance floor upstairs plays 90s music — the place has a very Irish pub feel about it — it is open most of the day — it is conveniently located near the Casino for when you get tired of the pokies — the staff are normally pretty nice The Bad — the bathroom is often disgusting — the tables are sticky — I had my beer served in a not so clean glass once — there are a lot of cougars and seedy old men that come here The Ugly — the beer is fairly cheap but don’t expect anything other than your standard brews — the music is often good but nothing more than a well practiced pub band playing all the expected cover songs While having its bad points, Irish Murphy’s still holds true to being a great sport for a few beers and maybe a bit of drunken dancing. I have had many a good night in this place and expect to have many more over the years to come.

Now, depending on my mood, I can be a sucker for dive bars. Don’t get me wrong, I relish the opportunity to dress up and act like a lady. But sometimes it’s good to get reckless and a bit silly over some beers and some really, really terrible love music. Irish Murphy’s doesn’t necessarily have bad music(I’m also a sucker for an accent, especially Irish) but they certainly have the collective crowd keen on getting drunk and roaring along to an inaudible and stereotypically perfect karaōke song. Maybe it’s the fact that Irish Murphy’s adopts an appearance actually like an Irish pub, but I can’t help but have a little fondness for it. I have to search for the fondness a little but believe me, it’s there. It’s just an ideal place to gather around a table and sling back a few casual(or not so casual) beers and get a little messy and fun. And when you’ve had a few, who can’t join in with the crooning and tuning of the blokes on stage? The beer’s fairly cheap, the company’s not half bad, and the entertainment isn’t sot stale either. I’m not trying to sound begrudging here, because like I said, I do have a soft spot for Irish Murphy’s. I just like to be with a larger group of people and get a little silly in the name of fun. If you’re after slurry banter and Irish accents, Irish Murphy’s is the place to be.
