The revamp of Brisbane domestic has seen some new openings on the food and coffee front. Fonzie Abbott is deep in Virgin territory but worth an expedition given the quality of the coffee. It also had a cute little coffee area where you can gaze out over the tarmac and meditate on the peculiar elasticity of airport time.

Bet you never thought you’d see five stars for airport coffee. Am I right? Thankfully a little juzzing of the Virgin Australia domestic terminal has meant a new class of retail outlets are now front & centre including Mecca Cosmetica and Lorna Jane. But possibly the most exciting of the bunch is a café kiosk from local roasters Fonzie Abbott. The food is what you’d expect in an airport — easy and suitable for on the go eating so don’t expect an eggs benny or such. But do expect a coffee, that granted is still at airport prices, but is actually drinkable. I ordered my long black* on a recent trip south and took the first sip with hesitation. Would I be tricked by typography? Was the promise of a good coffee in an airport just an urban legend that would remain a unicorn in everyone’s travel story? Thankfully, no. Thankfully, Fonzie Abbot delivered. *As I’m a black coffee drinker I can’t speak to the standard of flat whites or lattes

It’s a new place in Brissie’s Airport. Great coffee with baristas who understand their product. Perch yourself on a stool overlooking tarmac activity whilst you sip your coffee & charge your devices. This spot is more about the coffee than the food, although I picked up a salami, olive & pesto roll which was tasty.
