5 stars goddamn. We creeped down to Luyang late on a Saturday evening, hungry enough to eat a small child we rode onward in search of an intense feed. Luyang pikes out a steezy feed every time. Psuedo masterchef digbats are looking in the wrong place and should rack off back to sydney. 5 stars every time. Steezy dumplings, chinese broccoli oyster sauce with the eggplant shredded pork ma po curd two cokes and complimentary jasmine tea from the thermos BANGIN $ 37 bucks

If chunky beef is your thing, try the Taiwaneese Beef Noodle Soup, it really good! Be warned, you’ll won’t have much space left for dumplings!!!

All the hallmarks of a great dumpling house — speedy food, good staples, cheap corkage($ 2pp, but I’m not sure they even charged us), and a happy full stomach achieved for $ 15pp easy. Beef dumplings were the best I have had, easy. Will be back just for that dish. Steamed veggie dumps were somewhat less impressive, but I find that’s generally the rule no matter where you go. We had a mushroom and green veggie dish that I can’t recall the name of that looked a little funny but tasted fabulous — and was very pleased that unlike many other Chinese/dumpling restaurants a veggie dish was reasonably priced too(what’s with so many places charging $ 20+ for a a few beans?!) Thanks to the Metro train driver who decided to bypass my stop unannounced and turf us out at Box Hill for resulting in this serendipitous spontaneous find! Will be back soon!

the dumpling skin is too thick! eating more pastry than anything else. n the filling has no flavour. due to more pastry than filling. service is lousy! waitress got our order wrong then we had to wait for nearly 25min! no soy on table. Noodles came without spoon. it was like u had to keep nudging them to give u what u want. WIR? Nope. plenty of other venues. Also with a name of DUMPLING as part of the business you’d expect that to b their forte but looking around the tables I couldn’t see anyone else ordering it. Guess they knew something I didn’t!

Luyang, YES! I approve. The dumplings are DELICIOUS and exceptional value for money(17 fried veg dumplings for around $ 8), the corkage is tiny, the service is friendly, the green vegetables are not overpriced(a rarity in Chinese restaurants, I find), and the fried shallot pancakes might just be my new favourites. We’ve visited multiple times in the past few weeks alone — they’re THAT good! The dumplings are just as amazing as at Empress(my former favourite dumpling house), however the service and the proximity to(my) home make this my new favourite dumpling restaurant in Melbourne.

Took the family out for a meal. Really lovely good. Got the steamed dumpling combo, honey chicken, chicken & cashew nuts, rice & corn chicken soup to start, plus 2 cokes and in all the bill was $ 49. Good value for money as portions are fair sized and we were all stuffed with food to spare. Honey chicken is a must!

This is my favourite place to eat in Box Hill. The food is great and cheap. Lots to choose from and the dumplings are great as well as their soups and rice dishes. Décor is very minimal and out dated but who cares when you are busy eating!

Normally I have to venture into the CBD to get good dumplings but last week a friend mentioned ‘an amazing dumpling house in Box Hill’ — I set out to investigate. I visited Luyang on Wednesday and returned only three days later. Yes it is that good. While it may not be up to the Shanghai village or Hu Tong standards, the dumplings here are still good and are very cheap. I came here with my partner and we ordered a serving of the fried pork dumplings($ 8 for 15 dumplings) and the steamed dumpling combination(around $ 12), which included a selection of different types of dumplings. The service is charming and the girls who wait on the tables are so friendly and efficient that you just have to sit back and relax. Luyang may not be luxurious or trendy but there is free tea on your tables, and some sweet dumplings are heading your way, so sit back and relax.
