This is a nice and busy café near the royal brisbane hospital. The coffee is good and the meals are huge. They do a good breakfast too. I wish it was open on the weekend. If you are visiting the hospital and want something better than the good court this is the best/only off site option during the week.

Great muffins, fresh, generously sized & tasty. It would be great if the business was open later in the afternoon.

I’ve been a regular at Jam Jar for quite a while. They’re the best cup of coffee in the RBWH area, but a bit of a walk if you’re in a hurry. The coffee is uniformly excellent and they have a full lunch menu and pastry case that has never disappointed. The service is always fast, friendly and efficient making it a delight to stop by on the way into the hospital in the morning.

I’ve been coming here for years — whether it’s breakfast toast/coffee, lunch with friends, or a quick muffin. The service is always, ALWAYS second to none. They know your name, they know your order. It’s clear that everyone makes an effort. They’ve had this FANTASTIC chicken/chorizo/sweet potato salad on their lunch menu for a few months now — it’s clearly been a popular one because they’ve transferred it over from their Winter menu to their(now) Summer menu. It’s(usually always) a big hit. Which is what stuns me so much. I ordered it last week, and from the moment it arrived on my table to the moment I left half of it on the plate I was so disappointed. The crunchy sweet potato(way undercooked), the chorizo huge chunks sporadically placed, and the onion. It has not ever had onion in it before and given I’m not a huge fan of it in salads, it did disappoint. I hope it was a once off. As for everything else. a hit. I’ve noticed they’ve now removed chips from the burgers(thus lowering the price) and given you the option to add them at an extra cost. I like this.

There aren’t many places to eat and have coffee around Bowen Hills, so Jam Jar naturally becomes one of the choices — and it’s not a bad choice, either! They carry the same name as Jam Jar in West End, but are not owned by the same people — and I’d have to say, the staff seems much friendlier and knowledgable than the one in West End. I’ve only had their latte so far, but it’s a smooth coffee that’s not too burnt, nor too dark(think it’s a medium roast I had), and not acidic at all. Enjoyable, at the least. I havn’t had their food, but it sounds and smells delicious! There’s nothing special about the ambience, but it still feels cozy for some reason. It’s located very conveniently by the Royal Brisbane Hospital, as it’s about 500 meters away. Most likely will return for some food at one point!
