Looking for a little bit of fancy in Bondi then look no further then Kelly’s Bar and Grill located on level 5 of Westfield. Fine dining with fantastic panoramic views over Bondi and towards the city. The main cuisine of choice for this joint is large slabs of meat. Steak is there speciality but they offer a range of other options such as Vegetarian plates, Burgers, Ribs and Sea food too. I have been here a few times and I usually tend to go here when I want a hit of protein in the form of man size steak. On this occasion I was dining with some work colleagues and we decided we would order a few different options in order to get the best of all worlds. We decided to order the Salmon with a baked potato, Sirloin Steak 350gm with steamed Vegetables and the Seafood platter. Like a good team we had every base covered. Before our dinners came out we were provided with Kelly’s famous complimentary bread. The bread is really sweet and melts in your mouth and excellent to get you excited for the mains. The salmon was grilled to perfection and the staff even asked how we wanted it cooked. I only recently found out some people like salmon raw on the inside(still unsure why ! Go for sushi if you want raw fish). It was beautiful and really fresh. The sirloin was very tender and juicy. The Steaks always come with deep fried onions on the side and the steamed vegetables were just steamed enough and still hard in a good way. The seafood platter was the stand out dish very surprisingly considering that Kelly’s isn’t known specifically for seafood. The platter was packed with calamari, mussels, John Dory, prawns and all upon a bed of fried rice. The fish was so good it tasted as if it was probably happy swimming in the deep blue sea that morning before making its way onto our plates. The service in this place was very good and the wait staff were easy to be got when ever we needed assistance.

Had the ribs and they were pretty tasty! I’m from the states and have had really good BBQ. I have to say I was really happy with them.

I always enjoy coming to this restaurant with my wife and our kids or with other couples, it is located within Bondi Westfield which offers convenience when you are headed to a movie or after a few hours of shopping. I enjoy having a steak and mash with the family and I wouldn’t complain about the price… I would think the rent and running costs would be quite high but you are getting convenience. Sure you could go to a pub and get a lesser quality meat on the cheap but those views overlooking the city beyond are quite nice! All in all we enjoy going!

Kelly’s Steakhouse is located on the fifth floor of the Westfield Shopping Centre in Bondi Junction. A gorgeous panorama of the harbor bridge and the CBD command the view from the restaurant. It is really a spectacular sight. Kelly’s is quite an expensive steakhouse with great quality food, but I’m not sure that the experience is worth the price. For dinner, I ordered a T-bone steak to be cooked medium rare and when it came to the table, it was exactly how I had requested. One bad thing about the dish was that it didn’t come with any real side dishes, and for $ 40, I expected more than just three miniscule baked potatoes with a microscopic dollop of sour cream. So along with the steak, I also had a Roquefort salad with a creamy blue cheese dressing. The salad was great and cost around $ 12. Another flaw about Kelly’s is that it’s in a mall. Sure, I was raving about the views earlier, but its location in a mall lessens its integrity. Unless you’re on a date with dinner and a movie on the itinerary.

If you like to eat big slabs of meat larger than your plate, and resembling nothing that would or could be cooked on your barbecue at home, then Kelly’s is an education when it comes to serving the charcoal crisped juicy tender thing you may refer to as a ‘food baby’ Muster up the guts to order an Aged Sirlion with a side of pork ribs, sauces are to die for, my favourite has always been the Monkey Business tangy BBQ sauce, and the Mushroom sauce is always very popular too. Perfect for a pre-dinner movie as it’s located right underneath the cinemas, and can time your meals to when your movie is starting. For vegetarians, don’t get your hopes up, and I’ve been told to avoid the Veg platter, just stick to the salads for your meal. But if you needed some encouragement to break from your veg ways, then Kelly’s is a great place to celebrate a new meat lifestyle :)

Sometimes a vegeterian finds themselves in a situation where they have to be at a steakhouse for a friends birthday… which forced the vegetarian to have to be a little creative for dinner… now, don’t get me wrong… I’m not one of those Vegeterians that keeps calling you a murderer whilst you chomp into your steak… in fact I think people were designed to eat meat… I just have a problem with farming practices — that aside… I just want to make clear my review is not to stop you from eating meat(but if you do, thats cool too) So, I’m in Kellys on a Saturday night scanning the menu and was delighted to see the Vegeterian Section — 5 options… plus they also had salads — so another 5 options… all in all a good start… So I ordered the Veggie Platter($ 29.95) which came with mushrooms, spinach, a vegie fritata, steamed vegies and rice… these dishes were an accumulation of most of the sides available at Kellys and let me tell you — BOOOOOOO. I was super disappointed! Seriously… it was fairly tasteless and bland… or mixed with so much cream to hide the lack of taste… the only thing I liked was the rice… but for $ 29.95…TOTALRIPOFF… To Kellys credit they do give you big portions… BUT if you don’t like what they’re giving you… it makes no difference… My friends enjoyed their steaks… which I’m happy about… but I can only speak about their side dishes… and I think they’re better being left aside…
