Spicy pork taco is amazing with Chipotle sauce. Watch out this puppy gets spicy quickly. To offset the 2nd degree burn make sure to opt for the sour cream and Pacifica beer. Enjoy!

4.5 stars. Having just moved back from the U.S. And eating chipotle at least twice a week, I needed to fill the empty void that came with having no chipotle. I tried the Guzman in MLC numerous times as its close to my work and was sorely disappointed, I always left feeling like I’d never enjoy delicious Mexican food, as long as I lived in Australia. Then one night when we were renovating, my boyfriend suggested Guzman in Bondi junction(close to home). I begrudgingly agreed as I was sick of everything else around. I got my usual burrito bowl and tentatively picked up my fork. O M G Instantly the rush of delicious chipotle memories came back as I devoured the most wonderful chicken burrito bowl and the Mexican void in my life was once again fulfilled. If you haven’t been to Guzman in BJ yet and gave up on delicious Mexican food in Australia, based on your experience at MLC, make sure you go there. And next time you’re in the U. S, go to chipotle. And pay extra for the guac.

This Sydney based Mexican Taqueria is the real deal. You can tell someone behind this business actually has some ties to Mexico. They support an orphanage in Tapachula, Chiapas Mexico that teaches orphans how to surf instead of steal. This brand definitely has a social conscience. as for the Food– They have Burritos, Tacos, salads, quesadillas(in corn tortillas) which is unusual, but tasty, and Bowls, which are basically burritos without a flour tortilla. So you choose a filling– Chicken Guerrero, which is my favorite is marinaded chicken thigh filet char-grilled– I have also had the Chipotle pork which is kinda like carnitas, also a shredded beef concoction called beef guerrereo, Their fish is a Barramundi filet nicely slathered in a garlic-limey mojo sauce which is very tasty as well. If you like your Mexican food spicier than they make it, you can go to their condiment bar and spice it up with jalapenos, coriander leaf, onions and a range of Hot sauces with some cool Mexican graphics on them– The higher the flames on the guys; hat, the hotter the sauce. Not sure if their really is a Guzman or a Gomez, but I love these guys just the same. I once had a gardener that looks like the guy with the mustache. If you love high quality food served super fast, these guys are the bomb!

Guzman in general does a good job of being a reliable, cheap & quick Mexican. This branch however does something to the spicy chicken burritos(possibly adds crack, I’m addicted) that makes them phenomenal! Nom-f’ing-nom-nom-nom!

Yum, yum, yum, yum, yum. Carry on, yes. It is a BIG deal. One Yum = 1 star! One star per yum well deserved. 10 months strong, their spicy chicken burrito($ 10.50) is a great catch, and is one of the most popular items on the menu here. Spacious dining space, and if you want to get away from the noise, then head as far away as you can to your left. Kids are also supplied with crayons and colouring in stencils. Back to my burrito. The chicken pieces were cut just right, and must I say every ingredient(even the rice surprisingly) blended in quite nicely with the vegetarian black beans, tomatoes and the chillies to name. I have also had a chance to try their guacamole in passing. Wow — smack bang full of flavour and this dip is actually made fresh daily on the premises. So far so good. Well trained staff and a factory line of efficient service in what is already great ambience inside this shopping centre space.

This review is for the one at street level, not the one upstairs in Westfield. The upstairs one really gives a bad name to this chain so please dont go to that one. The one on the street however is awesome! The service is always friendly and fast. The burritos, quesadillas and nachos are all awesome with spicy chicken all the way! It only gets 4 stars because its still not up to par with Cali Mexican food but not many places are in this country.

Try as I may as a lover of all kinds of Mexican — fine dining down to grotty but real — I can’t some to commit to Guzman Y Gomez even though two of them are right around the corner. I’ve had bad experiences at the one on Bronte Road(distracted, don’t give a stuff about your service on a regular basis — and we’re talking take the order and call your number here not proper service!, forgotten orders, beans that were so hard once they were inedible, etc.), but thought I’d give it another go at their new«restaurant» near the cinemas at the Westfield Bondi Junction. Same as it ever was. The order taker was too busy scamming a coffee order from the guy from Max Brenner to bother with the growing queue(HELLO!!!), my husband’s barra burritto was do dry and crumbly as to be inedible(why put it on the menu if you are going to murder it?) and the place had the atmosphere of a roadside rest stop. Great potential as a cute little burrito chain but sadly, for me, it just doesn’t deliver food wise or otherwise!

Sunday night and in dire need of a cheesy hangover cure. Nachos it is. Spicy chicken guerrero nachos with tomatillo salsa and fresh guac to be precise. I’ve had the steak nachos from here before and it was good, so I figure this one will be on par. Alas, the corn chips resemble stale cardboard in texture, and the meal is the colder side of luke warm. In fact, I have to shove it in the oven to bring it up to temp when I get home, because cold nachos just doesn’t cut the mustard. The Jarritos Mandarin soft drink is like a Mexicana Fanta and gives me the sugar hit I need, but $ 4 is a bit rich. Staff are sweet and they’re even speaking Spanish. If it weren’t for the bunch of Aussie yobbos across the road at the Tea Gardens, I could be forgiven for thinking was in Mexico. Thankfully, I’ve picked my timing and it only takes a couple of minutes to produce my meal… although an extra couple of mins and it may have actually been warm. The guac is good and the nachos does have serious chilli kick. Just what the doctor ordered.

I am so impressed with this place that I keep coming back for more… I don’t know what they’re doing to make the food so good… but perhaps ignorance is bliss right? I’ve been here quite a few times, so I’ve sampled quite a few options on the menu… and my favourite would have to be the Barramundi Bowl… i decided to try it for a change(as I normally do the Veggie Bowls — also excellent) and now I have an addiction. The food taste super fresh and flavoursome and despite the fact that these places are popping up faster than acne on your teenage cousin, it seems they have still maintained their quality… So back to the Barramundi Bowl — it’s basically grilled Barrumundi fish pieces on rice with vegetables and yummy mexican additions like guacamole, peppers and sour cream… it is so good but my description doesn’t do it justice… it’ costs around $ 12 and I really really really really recommend you try it! If only they sold Tequila here, I think I’d never leave…

I seriously can’t get enough of their burritos, either they’re laced with some addictive substance, or they have solved my hunger problem with a sublime rendition of a mexican burrito. It’s like one of those movies, or ad’s when you’ve finally found that meal that you’ve been searching for, the camera zooms in on your eye, as your pupils expand, and everyone in the background speeds up, while your expression is in slow-mo. Seriously, this is what I think about. Ok, back to reality Joel. I can’t speak anything better about this place, it’s been there for me like a helpful stranger in Mexico offering you some street food, I have literally tried all the burritos and they’re all great. I especially love the spicy chicken, and pulled pork. If you go during the day, hit them up for the burrito and drink special, for only 10c more you can grab a soft drink or water.

The popularity of this 5 year old business is evidenced by the explosion of new outlets all over the country. These guys really spotted a niche and have done a superb job in filling it. Talking about fillings… The burrito’s and taco’s at G Y G are second to none. They really do use great ingredients and take pride in what they do. The Bondi Junction store does not disappoint. Its location sees it permanently busy and you’re lucky if you find a vacant table. The team is friendly too. I’ve found myself wandering in at closing time when you would typically receive dirty looks for halting the ‘closing’ process. I was welcomed in with a warm smile and out came the containers with the various ingredients. Not 10 minutes later I was served up a fantastic burrito. They’ve cleaned up their menus and branding too. Its really easy to choose what you’re after and there are numerous options to cater to all tastes. I love the frozen margaritas and when doing Mexican, Corona’s are a must. I believe another G Y G is opening up in Westfield in the Junction. I’m not surprised.

It may be a chain but dios mio! Guzman Y Gomez have nailed Mexican street food. The food is great, it’s fresh and healthy and you can tell the high quality of the ingredients. This is no sloppy, messy, greasy mexican fast food. This is good mexican street food — possibly better than some of what you’d get on the streets of Mexico City. I love popping in and grabbing a couple of tacos, sitting at the bar table by the window and watching the goings-on in the Tea Garden Hotel’s beer garden across the road — it’s always comical! I’m also a huge fan of the mini-burritos, which are the perfect size! What’s most impressive about GYG is the continuity in the quality of food, quality of service and the overall dining experience of this chain of restaurants. Every GYG I’ve visited is excellent. There are a large number of Mexican«restaurants» around town that could learn a thing or two from GYG. I only wish GYG would bite the bullet and open a full restaurant with a beer as they would make a killing. Mi gusto mucho.
