I wish I could pack Vicious Cycle in my rucksack and take it with me everywhere I go. I’d gladly ride here every other day! This small spin studio in Bondi was just what I needed after arriving in Sydney on a ten and a half hour flight from Honolulu. Though my Sunday class was considerably more painful(I’d been horseback riding a couple days before and was still sore) than the one I took on Wednesday morning, I enjoyed both tremendously. If you’re a beginner, it’s no bother, the patient teachers will help you get set up properly on a bike so don’t be afraid to ask! I dig the darkness, the black lights, the music, the video screens, the strong fan(no overheating in here!) and most of all, the instructors. The spin classes at Vicious Cycle are no nonsense. When you leave here a sweaty mess after taking one, you’ll definitely know your forty-five minutes were well spent. And did I mention you can get two rides for $ 18? At these prices, what are you waiting for? Also, the place is clean, the bikes are new so GO! Just go!

«There is a time for every purpose under heaven. A time to laugh and a time to weep. A time to mourn… and there is a time to [SPIN]. And there was a time for this law, but not anymore. See, this is our time to [SPIN]. It is our way of celebrating life. It’s the way it was in the beginning. It’s the way it’s always been. It’s the way it should be now.» Okay yes, maybe I just ripped some bodacious lines from Footloose and replaced all references to dance with spin. But walking into this studio made me feel hotter than Kevin Bacon in all of his cocked half-smile, feathered-hair glory and it seemed the only appropriate thing to do. Now listen here — this spin studio isn’t one of your new-fangled fancy-pants Lululemon branded yummy-mummy magnets. Oh no. It’s dark, it’s sweaty, and it’s filled only with what you need: excellent spin cycles, a blasting sound system with perfectly timed RPM selections, integrated video screens, fans+AC, attendees who want to work hard and quality instructors committed to kicking your ass.(Oh, and a raging black light mural… since apparently all Aussie spin studios have them.) It does not have showers or locker rooms. There’s a unisex bathroom with a changing stall for the unprepared. And sure, the lack of these amenities initially perplexed me, until I realised that this is exactly how they can keep their costs down. As such, there’s no membership or joining fee — you just pay per ride from a walk-in at $ 18 to $ 11 per ride — depending on how many you sign up for. Right now there’s a new member’s rate of 2 rides for $ 18, and with their clever online booking system, you really have no excuse not to get in there and spin. «And we did [SPIN]. We [SPUN] our asses off.» Coming soon: a back room where they’ll offer pilates, boxing(yes!) TRX, yoga and more. So. good.
