We stopped in here prior to a fitness session and were surprised at how good the coffee was, and how friendly the service, even under a good lineup of regulars. We came back afterwards for breakfast and they have a massive menu board with a bunch of options. Worthwhile looking through the lot and not getting menu fatigue like I started to. Food was quickly delivered and the atmosphere is very local, papers and morning coffees sort of vibe going on. If we were locals, we’d head back more regularly, but for now — go if you can. It’s a nice experience.

Charlotte is a bit of a hidden gem in the back streets of Balmain. As such it is very much a locals café and it plays on this card well with a nice owner and friendly staff. It also means it can get very busy on the weekends at breakfast and lunchtimes. The café has a cute modern cottage feel with some footpath seating, a front area with a long shared bench and some smaller tables followed by a rear area that has more seating and some toys etc for kids. It is very pleasant overall but it can get a little noisy, especially if full(more so with many little ones present). The food is of very good quality and reasonably priced. Good value for money and tasty. The service is great and usually very quick, even with a long queue of folks ordering takeaway coffee — which is consistently good. Free wifi is an added bonus and I have had a few days where I escaped the home office to do a little work here. If you feel like trying something a little of the high street in Balmain Charlotte is worth definitely a visit.
