This Curtin establishment is below average but customers are expected to pay exorbitant prices for simple food. This is typical of most of the Curtin cartel run establishments on campus. The coffee is barely drinkable, that’s probably why they serve their take-away coffees in paper cups with the word«YUM» printed on the the side. Anyone serving decent coffee wouldn’t have stoop to the level where they have to convince their customers through coercion that their coffee is good. A Mrs Mac’s mystery bag(pie) will cost you $ 4.40 and a pastie will cost a whopping $ 4.90. If you want a meat and salad roll you will need to sell a kidney in order to be able to afford it.

I agree with Camilla P. wholeheartedly. Vege Patch is such a misleading name for this place. When I started at Curtin, I heard the name Vege Patch and thought; «great, that sounds like somewhere I can get fresh and healthy vegetarian lunches». Wrong. The food sits between a Dome and a sports stadium kiosk. The only things Vege Patch has going for it, is convenience and it’s shady alfresco seating. I’d usually come and sit with my lunch from elsewhere here to be honest. And I wasn’t the only one.

Although I don’t go to Curtin Uni most of my friends do, and the other day when we were all to busy to meet up somewhere else we decided to go to the Vege Patch. I thought this was going to be perfect for me as I’m a pescaterian and because I’d been told that the Vege Patch has apparently the biggest and best selection of vegetarian food. Unfortunately I was a little disappointed I was expecting to see delicious and interesting vegetarian treats which you wouldn’t find anywhere else but no, nothing innovative just the regular stuff you find everywhere else. I did have the smoked salmon baguette with water cress, capers and cream cheese — which was delish and their Brie and sun dried tomato baguette also looked quite appetising. Meat lovers don’t fret there are still some options you will love from your traditional pies, to chicken and salad filled baguettes, all with a section dedicated to drinks, refreshing and caffeine filled iced coffees or a mocha and for those chilly days a warm hot chocolate is a delight. With a bar type seating inside and lots of benches and tables to sit on outside with shady trees I guess the Vege Patch is a great place to pop in for lunch, have a group meeting or meet up with friends but is certainly not worth the trip if you’re going for the food.

Having been recommended the Vege Patch by a co-worker, I had this Image in my mind of a green house establishment of sorts. Perhaps we’d sit on toad stools and stir our cups of tea with blades of grass? Kidding, kidding, but I thought for certain there would be adequately healthy meals for a cheap skate student. Unfortunately, the Vege Patch did not live up to my imagination. In fact, for a place which boasts of an abundance of vegetables, there’s an awful lack of that very category of food for sale. The Vege Patch is a very small cafeteria, with the bulk of their food served from a Bain Marie. Think lasagna, pies, muffins, sausage rolls, and over priced sushi. As for their coffee, save your taste buds the trauma. It’s bitter, and they usually get my order wrong. Boo!
