As a student, I’m a strong believer that university campus food should be affordable and as healthy a possible. But what really grinds my gears is the campus outlets that deliver neither, which is most of them I reckon. At least deliver one or the other. And if you’re going to serve up nutritionally questionable food — at least make it interesting and tasty. For anyone unfamiliar with Curtin University’s Bentley campus: this is where George steps in. Georges Kebabs is a Curtin institution. Any current or past student will attest to this. I cannot comment on the nutritional value of the products, but no one will deny the miracle that is the chip roll. It sounds simple enough that for the uninitiated it probably seems dull. My suggestion: get the chip roll with egg, salad and gravy. Radical. I love that feeling you get when you justify the orgasm of tasty calories by reassuring yourself that at least there was some lettuce in there so it balances out. After smashing these over the last 4 years, one thing I will say is that the quality of construction matters. When you get the staff who know exactly the right proportions of salad and the correct sauce to chip ratio, the chip roll is inhalable. Get a newby and you may find a concentrated anomaly of onion halfway through your chip roll journey. Not cool, but you’ll forgive them quickly like the rest of us. Another issue I have is the lack of plastic screens over the salad thing — there’s many students here with questionable hygiene — I’m not a germaphobe but… wait, yeah I sort of am actually when it comes to communal saliva exchange. Anyway, Georges should be congratulated. Thanks for providing affordable and addictive kebabs — when exams are breathing down our necks, Georges is a beacon of tasty brilliance. And after a few pints next door, the carby chip roll is the perfect mop up for your mid-lecture prison break. When I finally end my tenure here; they can print my degree on a chip roll! Cheers George!

There arent enough stars in the sky to reflect how many stars i would give George’s to accurately represent its level of awesome. Every single item on the menu is absolutely fucking amazing. And consistently so. By far the best kebab shop in Perth, Georges is an institution at Curtin that has been churning out epic feeds for like, 20 years. The lamb and chicken wraps are highlights, and you can customise them with fresh salads, a choice of added extra like cheese, bacon or tabbouleh, and two sauces. The chip rolls are also a crowd favourite, and the chips themselves are the best on campus for those, like me, who want to have as much fat as possible for lunch. You will soon figure out that George’s is incredibly popular so a wise word — call and order 10 minutes ahead. You will feel like a king as you walk past the dozens of plebs lining up waiting for their heaven sent lunch. *In addition I forgot to mention their great hamburgers which are super cheap especially with guild, not particularly pretty to look at but boy are they tasty and fill you up!
