Went back after 10 years since I was once the barista. Surprisingly not much has changed over that time besides the location. The modern décor is something fresh and I think is ire favourable. But still quite expensive for what it is with the exception of the baguettes and if you feel like splurging on a mouse cake. Coffee seems to be not as good as what it was a decade ago but I could be biased. Need a change from the now common hipster easy food café it is worth a short stay with the newspaper.

No matter when I come here, it’s usually well attended. But it’s a relatively big café space, so it doesn’t seem crowded or crazy busy. The extensive array of food always looks delicious and servings are generous. A long black coffee is served in the traditional French style — you’ll get a large one in a soup bowl. I like their Chicken Focaccia and the Baguette with Turkey & Salad is good too. Although everything’s huge, they will quite happily serve a half serving. All the patisserie is lovely. One tip though — they add a premium to their prices on Sundays and holidays.

I totally agree with the last reviewer — staff act as though they are doing you a favor serving you — a real pity. I walked into the store and made eye contact with a girl behind the counter that was free — she then appeared to actively avoid serving me. I had to chase here down to sell to me — very strange! The cakes, bread, sandwiches, etc. are good — pity the service is so bad.

These guys make some great-looking cakes, but their customer service could be a little warmer. I wasn’t really greeted until the staff could be bothered to say hello. I know it’s a bit of a gripe, but all that needs to be said is a little hello and a «We’ll be with you in a minute» The place was half-empty(or full, depending on how optimistic you’re feeling at the time) so I’d hate to see what they would be like stressed out. I know that their cakes look amazing, I haven’t tried them so I wouldn’t be able to comment, but their macaroons could be improved. The meringues were a little soft and for a place that thinks it sells luxurious sweets, they could be better for the price.
