Super tasty toasted ham and cheese sandwiches here. For $ 7 it comes with a salad on the side as well. Purchased a cheesecake for a birthday which was a crowd pleaser. Pretty to look at and better to eat. The staff were friendly but the service was a tad slow. I had to ask for my sandwich after my friend had finished.

Beautiful shop with lots of goodies to look at! It was cold so I had a hot chocolate which was good, but I also had a jam donut but they didn’t hear it up(cold jam donut!?)

If I was using Unilocal 10 years ago this would have been a different score. I use to be a big laurent goer, was a big fan of the chicken and walnut sandwich. Today however everything seems to be quite dated. The coffee I had was burnt, the tables were dirty and the despite the lack of customers service was quite slow. Now, I do understand that everyone can have bad days — and this may have been one — it was just a shame that it was the day that I chose to stop in after many years. I have heard that they have renovated another one of their stores in Balwyn so will check that out to see if a refresh delivers better results.

Assistant manager was extremely rude and got my order wrong and didn’t look at me when taking my order. Had to make a few attempts on entering the PIN on my credit card which was an honest mistake as I had my partners card. I haven’t had to use a PIN in ages as most places have pay pass. At this stage, she started rolling her eyes at other customers. Not called though as my partner came rushing over to enter his PIN and apologised. Food was average. Wouldn’t go back there for a free meal. Don’t bother.

Laurent has a nice selection of cakes, pastries and deli rolls and all the various breads you would expect in a bakery come café. It’s usually pretty busy here so I actually really want to love this place. However they keep getting my coffee order wrong. Three times in a row I ordered a latte and got given a cappuccino. I would have said it was my Brit accent causing confusion, but I don’t have this issue elsewhere. What made it worse is that the staff were a little bit grumpy about it when I raised it with them. That said the last two times I ordered they did get it right. I won’t stop giving this place a try, but being honest it feels like the staff are just students with a limited care factor that need a bit of a shake up. If that happened and the service improved, I would score this place higher.

I’ve been working in Camberwell for a few years now and I’ve always said that I had to try Laurent. There’s always people there at lunch time and it always looks busy and the pastries, sandwiches and cakes look really good. We finally went for lunch a few weeks ago and well… It was just ok. I had a chicken roll and it was alright. I found it to be quite noisy, which was a letdown. It wasn’t noise from people’s conversations but noise from the other side of the counter — stacking of plates, forks and knives being tossed around. It hasn’t put me off completely though. I’ll give it another shot and I’m also looking forward to having a sweet treat as well.
